Pretty Feet

How do you keep your feet nice and healthy-looking? Without having to spend so much to get pedicures

I went to the mall and saw all these cute foot scrub lotions from bath and body works. I guess I’ll wait till their semi-annual sale in December to pick foot stuff up from there, but I was wondering if anyone has used them. I think one looks like real seashore sand bottled up in a paste. And then there is another scrub that appears to be blue in color. I forget the name of the line. Oh they have this soaking liquid made from mint? Supposedly mint is good for your feet?

Any other products that are good in terms of actual foot scrubs?

Also - what the hell is a pumice stone, and how is that supposed to make anything better? Wouldn’t that thing just scar skin?

Re: Pretty Feet

A pumice stone is good for removing dead skin cells on your feet, usually on your toes and heels. It works if you use it regularly, along with an exfoliator and a good brush.

I find Sally Hansen feet products to be the best so far. I believe they use mint more for its powerful scent and it's quite relaxing for the feet.

Re: Pretty Feet

No pumice stone would not ruin the feet… it just scrapes away dead skin cells. If you ever get a pedicure, pay careful attention to what the person is doing to your feet. And btw, they’re not that expensive, you don’t have to go to a big fancy spa. In my area, it costs $15 plus a free 10 minute massage

Re: Pretty Feet

mint refreshes tired feet and I guess the seashore one is an exfoliator

Pummice stone is a soft volcanic rock (its hardened larva)

anyway you scrubb the underside of your foot with it to soften and scrape away the hard skin on your heels.
I know indian girls how use it on their legs and it rubs away the hair... but if you dont do it properly you can rub your legs raw and then you will get scars which will last for months

there was a thread on foot treatment in life2 sometime ago, it had lots of good ideas.

Re: Pretty Feet

i like to use pumice sponge instead. its great for scrubbing feet and leaves them smooth and clean, use brush for nails and any scrub ( apricot etc) for the upper part of the the feet. leaves ur feet clean and looking healthy. and put lotion or cream in the end.

Re: Pretty Feet

Washing feet 3-4 times a day is enough for keeping them healthy. Keeping the feet closed (away from air and sunlight) as in socks and shoes, for long can harm them. Always wash the feet after you let them free from shoes. Don't wear tight shoes.

Mint?? Yes, "Polo" is good for feet. Even if it cannot improve skin, still the feet will smell good.

Re: Pretty Feet

Not all feet are created equal.

From men's perspective who don't need beautiful feet, just clean ones; it is important to scrub your feet on a bi-weekly or a monthly basis. If you sweat a lot (people who exercise regularly take notice), you will loose skin that is important to be removed. If you don't take a shower right after your workout, the skin gets stuck to your body & your feet. So, while taking shower make an effort to work on your feet. It is also important to keep the nails as clean as possible. Older you get, your heels will have skin like scales & scrubbing off this dead skin keeps your feet odorless & almost beautiful.

How To Give Foot Care

GENERAL INFORMATION:
What is it? Foot care means washing a person’s feet every day and keeping the toenails clean. Keeping the feet clean is important to a person’s health. Foot care helps keep the feet healthy, prevent infection, and odor. It also improves blood flow to the feet.

How should a person’s feet be cleaned? Washing a person’s feet depends on how the person is bathed. If he can walk the feet can be washed in the tub or shower. Do the following if the person cannot get out of bed.
[ul]
[li]Gather the following items and put them within easy reach.[/li]
[li]Gloves, if needed.[/li][li]A large basin with warm water. Use your elbow to test the temperature of the water. Be sure it is not too hot or too cold.[/li][li]Soap.[/li][li]A towel, washcloth, pillow, and a waterproof pad.[/li][li]An orangewood stick. This is the name given to a small wooden stick used to clean under fingernails and toenails. An orangewood stick comes with many nail kits or you can get one at most drug stores.[/li][li]Lotion.[/li][/ul]
[li]Getting the person ready.[/li]
[ul]
[li]Put the waterproof pad under the person’s feet to protect the bed from getting wet.[/li][li]Place a pillow under the knees.[/li][li]Cover the person with a blanket or sheet.[/li][li]Put the basin with the warm water on the pad.[/li][li]Wear gloves if there are sores on the feet.[/li][li]Put the feet in the water and let them soak in the basin for about 15 minutes. This softens the skin, loosens dirt, and is relaxing to the person.[/li][/ul]
[li]Washing the feet.[/li]
[ul]
[li]Use soap and a washcloth to wash the feet and between the toes. Rinse the soap from the feet and toes.[/li][li]Look for redness, tenderness, or sores on the feet.[/li][li]Call the health caregiver if you have concerns about the person’s feet. Or, if there are new sores or redness on their feet.[/li][/ul]
[li]Drying the feet.[/li]
[ul]
[li]Help or remove the feet from the basin.[/li][li]Gently dry the feet and between the toes.[/li][li]With the orangewood stick, carefully clean under the toenails.[/li][li]Tell the health caregiver if the toenails need to be cut. This needs to be done by a person trained in foot care.[/li][li]Gently rub lotion on the feet. Do not put lotion between the toes.[/li][li]Clean and put away all items used.[/li][/ul]
CARE AGREEMENT:

You have the right to help plan your care. To help with this plan, you must learn about caring for your feet. You can then discuss your treatment options with your health caregivers. You can work with them to decide what care will be used to treat you. You always have the right to refuse treatment.

Re: Pretty Feet

Find a cheap but good spa...get pedicures regularly. There's a spa near me where they charge $25 for manicure AND pedicure...plus they have massage chairs. I usually go once every 2 weeks.

Otherwise at home, every other day, I use pumice stone to scrub feet to keep 'em soft.

Re: Pretty Feet

^^^ sounds lovely

lost, I really like your name.

Re: Pretty Feet

^ I put this in a seperate thread, cause it was just for foot care, not for pretty feet. It was moved here, as for mods these are same issues but they are very much different.

There is a big difference between foot-care and pretty feet. Pretty feet costs a lot more than normal foot-care. Spending $25 for a treatment will not ensure even foot-care in many cases, particularly if they are in a bad condition due to heavy use of socks and bad shoes.

Re: Pretty Feet

I use one of those shower-sponge-like scrapey thingies to take the dead skin off my feet once every week in order to keep my feet looking as beautiful as they do.

Re: Pretty Feet

Yuuuuuck !!!

Re: Pretty Feet

My feet were pretty nice before i started attending my university in this hot werather. They got all tanned although they look better now as i am not attending uni nowadays. Once i wore this new pair of shoes, they were a bit tight, the tight straps on them hurted alot, i was dumb and didn't care properly and now i have these little light brown marks on both feet. They look so bad. My feet are fair and just these two marks make them look not so nice. And then i have never had healthy feet, i have got skinny feet. I want a bit of flesh on them.

To Daisy:

Thanks. :)

Re: Pretty Feet

I wash them 3/4 times daily with plain tap water. No soap. The trick is to first splash water on the face. The moisture from the face softens your hands. Those hands should be rubbed over the heels and parts where the skin is not too soft. This is a natural way to keep your feet clean, healthy. But this treatment is only for those feet which are not going through any rough treatment otherwise.
