Pretending to be Ahmadi

I was a bit surprised today when my mom told me something about family friends I have always thought of as Ahmadi. I have heard of similar things happening in the Jewish community but I never thought it occured in our community. Call me naive.

I was discussing the topic of prophethood with an Ahmadi friend of mine over the phone today and after our discussion I was asking mum about how she visited the town where I guess Ahmadism started. (I dont know the exact history.) So we start discussing some things and I mention a family that I have known to be Ahmadi all along. Then mum tells me that they are not infact Ahmadi. I think you cannot understand the surprise I got when she said that. Its like when you think/have been told someone is Shi’aa all your life and all of a sudden you find out they are saying they are really Sunni. (As you know there are differences in terms of rituals/beliefs etc).

So I ask mum how she knows this to be true, and she tells me that the mother told her. I asked mum why they would pretend to be Ahmadi all this time and mum said the auntys family proclaimed that so they can get their citizenship status set up here, because Ahmadis are very helpful to eachother in that way. Helping eachother financially and other ways. Then mum told me that the aunty also said they know a lot of other “so-called” Ahmadis who have done the same for similar reasons. Now I dont know about you, but I dont think this is right. I can understand if you are under coersion or under persecution so you keep your beliefs secret, but for monetary or citizenship gains, gosh. The whole community thinks of them as Ahmadis and so they are in a sense looked upon as different by many muslims in the community (as you know some muslims dont consider them muslim but this discussion isnt about that) but they were willing to go through that just for papers. I dont know, I am totally surprised that this goes on in our desi community.

Do you think its alright to do something like that? Isnt that cheating? Gosh.

Any comments? No slanderous remarks please. This thread is about pretending to be something you are not. Please stick to the topic, thank you.

how is that much different from ppl claimign that they needed refugee status since they were members of MQM and were being hunted down :) whereas they were not even mohajir or remotely connected to MQM, all they needed was to get an FIR or two and a few affidavits and boom they are refugees in US and Canada.

Now as far as this lady pal of yer mum is concerned..maybe she did it and is making it look less crooked by saying oh so many others do it too and thus somehow justifying it.

IU became an Ahmadi once as well, because ANy Ahmadi told me all ahmadi converts get brand new Mercs, but he dinn deliver so I beecame a fraudia again.

But dont you think its worse concerning religious matters? Or no? Heres a person who believes that Prophet Muhammad was the last Messenger and Isa being the Messiah(pbut), but yet she is leading everyone else to believe she thinks otherwise, and for papers.

Fraudz is right... I remember there was a time when MQM ppl used to get asylum abroad, and thanks to this lax rule, all our Sindhi, Punjabi, Baluchi, Pathan brothers wishing to go abroad started claiming to be MQM men ;)

Munni

point being that some people will do anything to get what they want. You can look at it in two ways i.e. pretending to be something theya re not to get a benefit that they will not get otherwise, thats basically cheating..or..changing one's belief for not other reason than to get some benefit like immigration ..thats kinda selling out. Both are wrong in my view.

However, how widespread this is as a practice? I am not sure that its that widespread.

Additionally, it makes little sense in them pretending to be ahmadi, INS does not go interviewing ppl at masjid to confirm someone's sect. anyways who knows

Lots of people have done that to get an asylum in Germany, and perhaps South Africa. I think some other countries also allowed asylum for Ahmedis but at one time Germany was accepting flocks of Ahmedis (not long time ago).

yup.........agree

I am not surprised at all to read about it. It’s not easy to change ethnicity but your political affiliation or religious beliefs are easy to change & there is no way anyone can question that.

We recently had an incident in our school where this guy who was a serious trouble maker; caught cheating, disrupting other programs, public intoxication, physical harassment, you name the trouble on campus relating to Pakistani Students & he will have some part in it. A year or so back he came to the international student advisor & claimed that he had accepted Christianity, and therefore his parents are not accepting him anymore. He further claimed that all his finances have been cut off & so he needs work authorization for off campus jobs (and he got it). Later he went to different Churches & got a load of financial help from them giving the same story. Now, how can anyone question his claim, knowing all his previous and current misbehavior? You can’t!!

That's why I claim to be an Ahmadi. I get monthly stipend.

But isn't everyone's claim just that - a claim? I believe that Men who claim to be Muslim do so for the promise of 72 virgins in paradise. Women claim so caz they are afraid of men.
