Scooping the bottom of the barrel doesn't really mean you're digging in for the worst.
A guy can have the best qualities, be very well-educated and still not be rich enough. I'm sure we have all come across people who have struggled to get their foot in their career door during initial years of migrating somewhere. Almost everyone (PhD's, MD's, graduates even) struggle to get started. Why can't the wife help in that case? Even if they aren't all them fancy degree holders- they might have other very good qualities that might take precedence over how much money they have in their bank accounts.
