Pressure cooker , which one to buy ..

So the last cooker I had bought it from Pakistan .. lasted about 2 years and died few days ago , almost when i need it so bad !

so now , I am not very keen to buy stuff from Pakistan anymore .. I want to buy someone from the UK .. Previously i had Prestige Smart plus .. it lasted a good few years …

But then again it was 8 litres and was heavy …
I dont have a huge budget for it … so I really need something that will do the task and will give me at least two to three years …

Any suggestions?

My sister got a pressure cooker when she got married as a gift
i will ask her tonight what’s it like.
Hubby bought ours from pakistan 3 yrs ago and i still use it - the handle has broken off though :smack:
I have another one though for back up :stuck_out_tongue: one he bought last year on his latest trip to pakistan :slight_smile:

erm , ok so I got Prestige 6 litre one … its brilliant and easy to use .. quite light weight , its aluminium so isnt heavy based …

But the funny thing is that it still took about 40 minutes to get the Kidney beans done :konfused: .. and about 30-40 minutes again for the brinjal cubes to soften and mash up :hmmm: isnt that strange ?

Hmmm…dont know about low price, but I’ve had this one for about 5 or 6 years, and no problems or breakdowns. Still looks and works like brand new.

It was much cheaper when I bought it. I don’t know what is available in the UK, but good luck!

I have two pressure cookers…once small and one large…have had them for years now (at least 5 each) and use them regularly.
I absolutely love them both.

YUP...mujhe pataa hai k BEST Pressure Cooker kahaaN milte haiN...aisii galii men hai jahaaN sirf "'aql se paidal" log hii jaa sakte haiN...is liye...mujhe raqam bhej deN...maiN, inshaa Allah, pressure cooker Khareed kar use aapko **e-mail**** kar duuNgaa :D Theek? :)**

I bought it from Costco and its been 3 years and it is still working fine.

that is quite strange. shouldn’t have taken this long at all for either of these things.
perhaps because it isn’t so heavy it doesn’t build up as much pressure and the cooking still takes long.
if I put kidney beans in either of my cookers for that long I would end up with a gooey mess.

NOT really! NOT if you call yourself 'aql se paidal'...Khud ko 'aql se paidal' kahnaa 'Khaaksaarii' samjhii jaatii hai**...yes, if you call others 'aql se paidal' then it is an insult...

...yahaN, to maiN ne mazaaqan likhaa thaa...don't take it seriously and it was directed at myself! :D**

^ I bought the larger one ($70) from an arab grocery store and the futura one (haggled to $30) from a desi grocery store.

Couple of months ago my daughter got a hold of the 'pressure top' of the cooker and threw it in the garbage (just my luck I was ready to make haleem that very same day) so in an emergency I ran to Canadian tire and found this brand called lagostina and it's been working really great for me, I use it 2-3 times a week, the cleanup is much easier than the last one.

yeah the pressure cooker I got this time , is aluminium one .. its not really heavy at all and so easy to handle ... which is why i love it .. but i have never used an aluminium one before hence not sure if the cooking times are normal .. As Muzna mentioned above it might be that the steam isnt getting as well built as it would in a stainless steel one

Question ... Muzna and others who said you guys have used your pressure cookers over the years ... how often do you change the rubber?

never had to......ever.
and I've had these two cookers for at least five years.
the bigger one has a rubber that is built in....nothing to change.
the futura one is a bit dodgy but I've managed to get by.

CB....return the one you bought and get your money back!

I swear by the brand Lagostina......I bought a cookware set from them about 11 years ago...it was originally $400 at the time and I got it at 50% off. I absolutely love it!!! Never burns anything and is a breeze to clean up.

Pressure cooker for desi cuisine in USA ??

Hi ladies,

I am from Pakistan and its been a while I moved to Boston,USA.
I desperately need a pressure cooker. I am not sure about the quality and safety of pressure cookers sold in local desi grocery stores and have no idea what American brand that will do good with our desi cuisine (daals, beans) etc.

Share your experiences and suggestions please.

I got my pressure cooker from JcPenny's, have no issues with it. My sis and mom have from Macy's, again both have no issues.

I bought mine off of amazon.
I didnt/still dont know a whole lot about best pressure cooker brands so simply searched for the highest rated one. Results said Presto. Thats what I got ... have had it 1 yr.
works great.
