President’s House budget increased by 12 percent
ISLAMABAD: The annual budget for President’s House has been increased by 12 percent – from Rs 316.09 million to Rs 353.84 million, according to the 2008-09 federal budget announced on Wednesday.
The revised estimate of the President’s House expenditure in 2007-08 is Rs 327.59 million. A major portion of the allocation – Rs 161.86 million – will be used in employees-related expenses, such as salaries and allowances. Rs 79.5 million have been allocated to grants, subsidies and written-off loans, and Rs 76 million to the operating expenses of President’s House.
Rs 12 million have been allocated to transfers, Rs 11 million to physical assets and Rs 10 million to repair and maintenance. T
he Rs 353 million allocation has been divided into two broad categories. Rs 156 million have been allocated to President’s Secretariat’s personal expenses and Rs 197 million to President’s Secretariat’s public expenses.
Of the personal expenses, Rs 1 million will be spent on the president’s salary, Rs 2.5 million on gifts and charities, and Rs 23 million have been allocated to miscellaneous expenses.
Rs 92 million have been set aside for gardens, Rs 22.6 million for wages of servants, Rs 22 million for state conveyance and state cars and Rs 10 million for dispensary establishment.
The National Security Council (NSC) expenses of Rs 35 million are part of the President’s House expenses. Rs 24 million of the sum have been allocated to employees-related expenses.

Prime Minister’s Secretariat budget slashed by 30 percent
ISLAMABAD: The government has slashed the budget for Prime Minister’s Secretariat by 30 percent – from Rs 329.804 million for 2007-08 to Rs 230.87 million – in the 2008-09 federal budget announced on Wednesday.
Rs 2.02 million have been allocated to tour expenses, Rs 14.575 to state conveyance and motorcars, Rs 5.6 million to charities and gifts and Rs 6.19 million for dispensary. The prime minister’s discretionary grant has been reduced from Rs 1 million last year to Rs 0.7 million this year. Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz had spent double the sum reserved for his discretionary grant.
