President Bush Thanks Pakistan

Bush thanks Pakistan for ‘big fish’

From correspondents in Washington
March 04, 2003

THE White House has praised Pakistan for the capture of alleged September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, calling the arrest of such a “big fish” a major blow to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network.

US President George W. Bush “expresses his deep appreciation and gratitude to (Pakistani) President (Pervez) Musharraf and the government of Pakistan for their efforts this past weekend that led to the capture”, said Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer today.

“This is a very serious development, a blow to al-Qaeda and the president is appreciative to Pakistan for the fine efforts that they have been carrying out in the war against terror and for their fine work in this most recent success.”

Yippee.....

O.K.

They are still undecided whether he is in Pakistani custody or Amrikan :D

Now we would be thankful if other countries also extradited people who carry out terrorist attacks on our country.

Altaf Hussain, no. 1 on the list… But hes in the UK

The Indian journalists just couldnt handle the fact that Bush praised Mush and ppl of Pak for this capture. Yesterday, I was watching the White House press conferecne with Ariel Fleischer and there was this one indian journalist who suggested how come these terrrorist keep showing up in Pak and maybe Mush is preotecting OBL and hiding him at his personal residence. Hearing this, Ariel just went into laughter as if saying "what a moron you are" and went on to defend why Mush and Pak ppl deserved such praise and moved on. LOL!

5Abi,

Whoever praises Pakistan, hurts Indians so bad. Ouch!

From TOI:

Aussie PM’s Pak praise irks Indians

Capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed

As a citizen of the United States I would like to express my thanks to the Pakistani government, President Musharaf, and the Pakistani people for your efforts regarding the capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and other terrorists. Your friendship is very much appreciated. Thank you so much for a job well done.

You could thank us for the support if it was by choice. It isnt. The CE has no choice, either accept what the US dictates or follow Iraq's example.

He also seems to have said "we can count o Pakistan for the 9th vote"...this 48 hours after Pakistan said they'll abstain. Haven't seen any specific correction or denial from Pakistan

Re: Capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed

Bschultz, Pakistan and the U.S. are not friends, we are allies, and thats priti much it. By the way, welcome to Gupshup.

you are welcome. hopefully the people of the two countries can understand each other much better than the streotypical images fed to them thru news channels catering to the lowest common denominator (in both countries)

terrorism is a scrouge and hurts everyone around. I am glad that this person is caught because people of similar mentality have been spreading terror within pakistan for years.

In the spirit of cooeration maybe US can also hand over some of pakistan's wanted criminals..former military personnel and politicians etc who have embezzled tons of public money and bailed to the US.

as far as being allies, and friends... it starts at the level of people, not at the level of governments. Not that govt stances dont matter, but its understanding and friendship at a general population level that is really needed.

You accept appreciation sooooo..... gracefully.

shop brat i think some people are annoyed because as much as pakistan is doing media still gets to kick the country's name around all it wants.

that is a rather "interesting" way to show appreciation. Some people are turned off by it i think.

The word is dis-satisfication. Not appreciation.

Fraudz,

I was referring to CM,s reply to bschultz48's statement of thankfulness.
Doesn't seem to be any media involved there.
Some people just seem to carry a big chip on their shoulder.

Shopbrat we have no option at all. We have to help. If you want tact, grace and diplomacy, you are looking at the wrong guy. That is more Fraudia line of work.

yeah no media involved in his statement but the rest of us hear the bashing by every johnnycomer lately "expert" on some mickey mouse "news" show all the time. In time that can begin to annoy people.
I am annoyed by it, i usually dont let that affect my approach.

so its not a chip on the shoulder..

CM
