Presents for people in Pakistan?

Okay, so my family needs to gift a close relatives potential inlaws…I need help with this because we are very very very close. It cannot be a shawl or something mediocre. But at the same time, it cannot be too pricey either.

We have to find gifts for 5 nands…two of which are married so presents for their husbands.

Potential MIL

Potential FIL

One BIL

One Bhabi

Three kids…ages 10 (girl), 3 (girl) and 2 months (boy).

Oooooooh…I am stumped because they have access to the nicest possible clothing. How do you send clothes from US to Pakistan as a gift? Is that even okay? What else can we gift them?

Re: Presents for people in Pakistan?

Potential MIL- Depends on age/ what she likes. Nice cardigans / handbag would go down well!

Potential FIL- Typical shirt and tie but a few?

One BIL- age dependent ? aftershave well known brand though

One Bhabi - again age dependant , and what she likes... make up such as MAC ( not foundation, but blushes/eyeshadow pallete/ primer etcc)

Three kids...ages 10 (girl), 3 (girl) and 2 months (boy). clothes and toys!!

You just need to find out how they are... then its rather easy buying things. Going for well known 'posh' brands is a good point as they will be like oooo

Re: Presents for people in Pakistan?

Reha, I’ve sent clothing to pk from usa using fedex and good ols usps. Both made it just fine. One bit of advise/trickery to keep in mind … when declaring value of your gifts on the customs section here … don’t put down a huge amount. I learned this recently but apparently … the recipients in pk need to pay customs duties for release of pkg.

So for example … I had sent someone an item of clothing approx $200 worth to lahore … upon arrival … cost of releasing that pkt was something like 20,000 rps :hayaa:
soooo everyone yelled at me and said … why didnt you just put down $1 or $20 … :hinna:
who knew! It does not occur to me to be automatically dishonest!

so there it … use the info as you will

gift ideas … honestly, buy the same as you would if they were here. I’ve been told … anything with a label goes over well … plus that it came from amreeeka

Re: Presents for people in Pakistan?

MIL is about 50 or so and is a very simple woman. Simple in the sense she seems like someone who doesnt really get into the fancy stuff.

FIL...thats about right. I will probably get some nice ties and shirts for him.

BIL is about 40 or so...aftershave sounds good though.

Bhabi is about 40 something and what you suggested seems nice. Should I do the typical perfume sets or not? A suit and perfume or makeup sets?

For the kids, I will do the clothes and toys.

Re: Presents for people in Pakistan?

OMG wow…I had no idea about that! Im glad you told me because otherwise I am sure I would have done the same as you ehl.

I guess I am just nervous because I dont want to send them things they dont like…:frowning:

Re: Presents for people in Pakistan?

^ awww i'm sure they'll like it!
But i get you though ... I worry a ton selecting gifts for anyone ... I really try to get things suited to personalities BUT that's hard to do for ppl you dont know!

anyhoos ... I got very very nice saris for my bhabis. I went to an Indian clothing place (indians have got their saris down! IMHO) ... get it prepleated if you want + an un-sewn blouse. Also makeup and perfumes (those sets of mini perfumes are so cute and practical) ... esp brands not available in pk.

another idea, woolen/warm scarves for men went over really well last yr for me ....

Black friday is coming up and there's bound to be HUGEEE blowout sales --- esp this year with steep discounts on fancy brands ....
