Re: Preparing snacks in advance

My mom will make filling for samosay in advance....which can last for a week.

And she uses frozen pastry sheets for the samosay......and she'll make samosay a week or two in advance. And keep em in the fridge to fry when needed.

If you like cheese samosay.......you can buy shredded cheese.......which will last several days and this will save you time.

Re: Preparing snacks in advance

^ Aisha, we do that as well.

We pre-make filling for samosas and get Fillo dough sheets to just be able to fill and bake.

We pre-make shami kababs or buy them and store in the freezer.

Usually, there is a supply of snacks likes:

Frozen samosas, egg rolls, kababs, dry snacks, cutlets, mini samosas, pastries, tarts, etc.

Since iftari is so close to dinner time...my mother has made it a rule not to go all out for it. She usually makes one or two things for iftari, we pray and then have dinner straight away.

Re: Preparing snacks in advance

^ I forgot about shami kababs and egg rolls. If you just put a little bit of effort in making them one day in the week....you're all set to go for the rest of the week.

We also make yogurt chaat...similar to dehi baray. Since yogurt/dairy has a long shelf-life...chaat/ras malai/kheer/halwa will last for several days.

I just fry baray for the dahi baras .. normally we don't have samosas etc or other fried item for iftari so that's just about it.
