3Aa’ishah radi Allaahu 3Anha said: “The Messenger sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam used to fast until we thought he would never break his fast, and not fast until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allaah fasting for an entire month except in Ramadaan, and I never saw him fast more than he did in Sha3baan.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari,1833; Muslim, 1956.

in other narration:

كَانَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ كُلَّهُ ، كَانَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ إِلا قَلِيلاً

Re: Preparing for ramadaan

Peace UmmAbdullaah,

Gone through the above hadith (in arabic) Its seems to me the above hadiths were taken from some online forum and i was unable to locate the hadith on the said given number of hadith.

I read book 'Kittab Al-Sawn' of Sahih Muslim and 'Fasting' of Sahuih Bukhari, where the same hadit is quoted but without mentioning 'sha'aban in it.

There might be differences in reference numbers of hadeeth. due to different publishers (IIPH, darus-salaam, Dar-us-Sunnah), books publishing in different countries (Saudia, Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen), translating exact hadeeth no. etc.

These ahadeeth are taken from authentic & trustworthy sites inshaaAllaah. and this hadeeth is very famous.

Re: Preparing for ramadaan

:wsalam:

Well again i gone through Book Sahih Bukhari but couldn’t find it. Here are the hadiths quoted below from Sahih Muslim. Due to translation maybe the reference numbers may vary but the main point is that original context should be same. In these hadith 'fasting in the month of sha’aban mentioned but specificaly on 15teen is not written.

Book ‘The Book of Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm)’ Hadiht No. 2582, 2583, 2584, 2585 and 2586.

'A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah :saw2: did not observe fast in any month of the year more than in the month of Sha’ban, and used to say: Do as many deeds as you are capable of doing, for Allah will not become weary (of giving you reward), but you would be tired (of doing good deeds) ; and he also said: The deed liked most by Allah is one to which the doer adheres constantly even if it is small.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: The Messenger of Allah :saw2: did not fast throughout any month except during ramadan. And when he observed fast (he fasted so continuously) that one would say that he would not break (them) and when he Abandoned, he abandoned (so continuously) that one would say: By Allah, perhaps he would never fast.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Bishr with the same chain of transmitters (with a slight variation of words and these are), that he (the narrator) said:" During any month continuously since he came to Medina."

'Uthman b. Hakim al-Ansari said: I asked Sa’id b. Jubair about fasting In Rajab, and we were then passing through the month of Rajab, whereupon he said: I heard Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) as saying: The Messenger of Allah :saw2: used to observe fast (so continuously) that we (were inclined) to say that he would not break (them) and did not observe them so continuously) that we (were inclined to say) that he would not observe fast.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah :saw2: used to observe fast till it was said that he had observed fast, he had observed fast (perhaps never to break it), and he did not fast till it was said that he had given up fast, he had given up fast (perhaps never to observe it).

Re: Preparing for ramadaan

Peace Sussana,

The above Hadith No. is 226 from the Book 'Praying at Night in Ramadaan (Taraweeh) of Sahih Bukhari. Here is another hadith narrated by Abu Huraira:
Book ‘Fasting’ of Sahih Bukhari Hadith No 125.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet :saw2: said, “Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.”
