Prepare 'rank turners' for visiting teams - Gambhir

I think he is right in that … Teams should be tested in every possible conditions to prove that they can prevail and are not only “Ghar kay Shair” … Proof of that was England in 1st Test clueless against little spin and good variations

This statement proves that Gambhir is in a state of shock

Re: Prepare ‘rank turners’ for visiting teams - Gambhir

^well it’s more what GA has pointed out here http://www.paklinks.com/gs/cricketnama/539247-its-true-most-non-asian-teams-struggle-big-time-in-asia.html … apart from Aus every Team struggled in Sub-Continent

And u also said here http://www.paklinks.com/gs/cricketnama/539247-its-true-most-non-asian-teams-struggle-big-time-in-asia.html#post8673804 that we struggle with bounce in AUS and SA

So it’s natural that a team thrives in Home Conditions … It’s only that the hype about not being able to play bounce and seam is highlighted by the comms etc. … it was a good sign to see Englands performance and status questioned by the writers and comms

His article would have had more weight if it was written when India briefly took over #1 spot.

I agree, subcontinent tracks should be spinner friendly, that'll even out the things.

Re: Prepare ‘rank turners’ for visiting teams - Gambhir

Gambhir has a point
**
Gambhir: I won’t rate Siddle until he takes wickets in India**

GAUTAM GAMBHIR has reacted to sledging of the Indian batsmen’s techniques by calling on home curators to prepare ‘‘rank turners’’ when Australia next visit India, and refusing to laud the progress of Peter Siddle until the fast bowler replicates this summer’s achievements on the subcontinent.

Gambhir faced Siddle’s first ball in Test cricket - it hit him on the head - but the Victorian has since reinvented himself to lead the rejuvenated Australian attack by combining innate aggression with a full length and consistent outswing.

But Gambhir claimed the only difference between the Siddle he encountered in Mohali in October, 2008 and the one who has crashed through India’s batsmen with 17 wickets for the series at 19.58, was his home ground advantage.

‘‘The only difference is the conditions. He made his debut in Mohali, and we played really well in that Test series. It’s his own conditions, his own backyard. The important thing is, once [he starts] doing well in the subcontinent, that is when you know he is a very good bowler,’’ Gambhir said.

‘‘Though he has bowled well in this series, no doubt about that - he has been the main bowler who has always taken wickets when he gets into his spells - **let’s see how he does in other conditions as well.’’

Re: Prepare 'rank turners' for visiting teams - Gambhir

There is obviously a bias in the media (including south asian media) to complain about and talk down turning pitches in south asia.. while lookk up to seaming pitches... the whole term "dustbowl" says it all.

However Gambhir's timing is obviously due to the recent losses on green pitches outside south asia.. and not simply a genuine concern for preserving turning pitches!

Re: Prepare 'rank turners' for visiting teams - Gambhir

I think the point here is:

A Fast Bowler should not be rated until he performs well in both helpful (Aus, SA, Eng and NZ) and unhelpful (Asia) conditions

Similarly a batsman or Spinner should only be rated if he does well in both seaming (Aus, SA, Eng and NZ) and spinning (Asia) conditions

Re: Prepare 'rank turners' for visiting teams - Gambhir

I think, the measure of performing in all conditions should only apply to batsmen. Lets cut some slack to bowlers, a good fast bowler will not be able to take wickets if a track is absolutely flat and dry, same goes for a spinner.

Re: Prepare 'rank turners' for visiting teams - Gambhir

**True to some extent..

**A great swing (fast) bowler should be able to make some impact even on dead pitches. Great non-Asian fast bowlers like the Windies quartet of the 80s, Mc Grath, Donald, Pollock and Ambrose were effective in Asia as well

Imran, Wasim and Waqar had almost equal success in Asia and in helpful seam-friendly conditions of Aus and Eng etc. because of their mastery of both traditional and reverse swing (through the air) hence taking the pitch out of the equation.
