firstly, does EVERYONE take prenatal vitamins these days? i was talkin to my SIL in pakistan and she said that doctors in pak advise not to take any iron or vitamins during first trimester…hmm why is this?
Also, what do you do when prenatal vits make you nauseous? I can pretty much eat anything EXCEPT the tablet and it makes me feel guilty if I skip a day or two because i know its really necessary. I tried switching brands but it just doesn’t matter. Has anyone tried chewables? Which brand and what’s the taste like?

that is not true .........must be some orthodox doctor ..........I was given multi vitamin and iron tablets both. I was allergic to iron tables and my Dr prescribed me the one which had both.
also take folic acid like sahar said ....it's very necessary !
There is a supplement called ENFA MAMA easily available in Pakistan. I discovered it after giving birth. But it's also good contains all the essential and the drink is yummy so you won't have any difficulty drinking or digesting it.
According to Dietary Reference Intakes women who are trying to get pregnant should take 400micrgrams of supplemental folic acid along with what they consume in their diet. Once the pregnancy is confirmed they should take 600micrograms of supplemental folic acid and try not to go over 1000mircograms of supplemental or that from fortified foods folic acid. Notice I said the upper limit is for supplemental folic acid or from fortified sources because the effects of supplements is always different from natural food sources.
Other then that, anytime you do take multivitamins you should consult a doctor or dietitian to make sure you are meeting the DRI levels and not ODing. Here is the link with the DRI tables if you want to look into it yourself.
i have been taking these since i conceived and this page shows you what’s in the tablet:
i took these before i conceived to prepare my body:
"Recommended level of 400mcg folic acid
The Department of Health recommends women planning a baby should take a supplement containing 400mcg of folic acid from the start of trying to conceive until the 12th week of pregnancy. This is the exact amount of folic acid contained in Pregnacare®, but folic acid is also important after the first twelve weeks. As well as helping to maintain normal healthy development of the neural tube and nervous system, folic acid is required for foetal growth and is vital for cell division from a single cell to a fully developed baby."
