anyone ever been put on bedrest because the dr. feared premature labor???
eventho i felt perfectly fine and was working, cooking, cleaning etc without any trouble (besides a bit of backpain) my doc noticed some contractions plus 3cm dilation, freaked out, and hospitalized me with 100% bedrest all within one day. and i’m ONLY 28 weeks!!!
all my tests have come back normal, no gd, no infections, everything’s perfectly good and i never feel any contractions but when they monitor me, apparently its happening. now i’m in the hospital and unable to setup my baby’s nursery or do any preparations besides online shopping
alotta women get put on bedrest a few weeks before delivery and its not as easy as it sounds. has anyone else been put on bedrest? did they force u to stay in the hospital? how did u deal with the extreme boredom and bland food? how about weight gain…obviously a pregnant woman on bedrest is a recipe for disaster when it comes to weight. i’m def scared of goin into premature labor cuz i don’t want my baby to deal with all the health complications that can arise from underdeveloped lungs etc but i will need alot of support n encouragement to stay here for the duration of my pregnancy. any related stories u guys can share and their (hopefully good) outcomes, will be much appreciated
Hi, I was supposed to deliver my baby on Sept. 16 2010, but he came into this world 7 weeks early, Alhamdulillah, and mashallah he is perfect.
What was a routine checkup at 31 weeks turned out into something else: I had been feeling some pelvic pressure, nothing too serious to restrict my movement. I was still cleaning, vacuuming anf I even remember scrubbing the bathtub. When the doctor checked me she noticed that I was 2-3 cms dilated and my uterus was contracting. She immediately sent me to the hospital, where I was hospitalised for further monitoring (baby's heartbeat and contractions). Later that night I further contracted to 5 cms and thats when they put me on the horrible magnesium suplhate via IV.. this was done to stop labor. The medicine worked and I stayed in the hospital till i was 33.3 weeks. The evening I was deciding whether I should continue my bed rest at home, I had my little baby. The monitor was picking up foetal distress and heart deceleration and the doctors decided to induce me and get the baby out immediately. My labor lasted an hour and the baby was out in the next 45 minutes. I'm so glad they did that and I delivered a healthy baby 7 weeks earlier that my expected due date. Ofcourse, since the baby was born prematurely, he had to stay in the NICU for another 2 weeks, but again every moment spent in the hospital was worth it.
Like you, there was no reason for my premature labor. That's how Allah intended it to be and I am immensely grateful to him for giving me my baby sooner than later. Don't worry, these things are fairly common and the hospital is well equipped to handle such issues. Don't worry about the weight gain. Since I was on bed rest, with almost no activity, I lost about 5 pounds, which was mostly muscle loss. So just relax and enjoy the last few weeks of labor, since it seems like your little baby is way too eager to see his loving mommy :)
my friend gave birth to her baby at 6.5 months. mA mommy and baby are doing really well- baby didn't even need to be on a respirator and she's putting on weight steadily. so while this can be stressful, try to take it easy and know that you're in very good hands in the hospital. and AH the doctor caught it in time and acted so quickly.
good luck! i'll be thinking of you and i hope you get to meet your healthy baby soon!
My baby was born 10 weeks early. I was very sick and had 3 different infections in my body. I was being told at 28th week that they may have to do an emergency c section to save the baby's life. I was also told to have complete bed rest. At 30 weeks and 2 days my water broke and I was rushed to hospital. They did an emergency c section. My baby spent next 1 week and a few days more in NICU. She came home with a g tube (feeding tube) . Handling a low birth weight baby esp with a feeding tube is extremely difficult. The tube was removed by herself after 3 weeks I think she got fed up of it and wanted to show the world that she can do without it lol ! After that she started drinking from bottle like a normal baby and her milk intake was not regulated anymore. For like 2 months (till my due date) she was a very tiny baby. Everybody used to call her tiny , fray , weak etc etc. But now after 10 months masha allah she does not look like a premature baby at all. Doing alhamdolillah absolutely fine. She is achieving mashallah all her mile stones.
No soul can come into this world without the will of Allah , he decides the time , place , gender etc etc. You take complete rest , don't take any risk. Insha Allah once a healthy baby will come into your arms you do as much shopping as you want but right now it's yours & baby's health & well being is what that matters the most.
I was put on bedrest, but not due to premature labor. It is really frustrating because you can't do all the preps you had planned. Our house was totaly upside down too, due to recent renovation
But you do what is best for your baby and your health. The other things will take care of themselves. Just make sure you have family/friends that can help you after the delivery.
It'll be okay, try not to stress. And maybe get lots of movies and books to keep yourself occupied. Do you like to knit? Maybe you could learn and make things for the baby?

At this point every extra day is important for that baby.**
By the way, I had my baby at 35 weeks via c-section, so there were not only the weeks before on bedrest but also the 6 weeks after for my recovery. I wasn't even home for the first month (stayed first at my parents' then at my inlaws'). Sure there's stuff that requires catching up, but it's not a big deal, in comparison to having a happy healthy and silly baby :D
