has anyone done aminiotic fluid or CVS(biopsy)of placenta after the result comes out positive of initial screening at first trimester?
Re: pregnancy screening test
please someone help me.
Re: pregnancy screening test
comes out positive for downs syndrome, you mean? my test was negative, but had it been positive, i'm not sure i would have gone through with it still. one, false positives are very common and it could lead to many months of stress. but also, downs or not, we would have kept the baby. i feel like these tests are more for parents who would consider aborting the fetus if the test said it had downs. of course, the flip side is, if you do find out, you can spend the pre-birth months learning and preparing to care for a baby with special needs.

When my SIL was pregnant, she was told that there are signs of baby having Downs syndrome and we should get the test done.
my parents did not let her do the test as there are severe side effects of the test itself. my parents said whether the baby has or not, there is no way of getting abortion done so why bother.
my mum continuous did read 125000 ASTAGFAR. and Allhumdulillah my nephew was healthy and normal. but it was pain full journey. Every day and night we would think him. the heartache of him suffering was overwhelming.
Re: pregnancy screening test
There is very good information on babycenter about this ..
Re: pregnancy screening test
We have gone through this painful episode, when our second child was due. The technician (pretty stupid of her) during routine ultra sound she said that she is seeing some soft spotin the baby's heart which leads her to believe that baby has down syndrome. All hell broke, as we recently migrated to Canada then, and had no family or friends support.
My hubby went to pick up our son from school, and I was feeling as if world has come to an end in that one hour.....so when hubby came back with our son, I asked for specialist to be seen immediately, luckily the Specialist was there, and he saw Ultrasound report and confirmed that there is soft spot but it is not indicative of Down Syndrome. Although, he tried his best to satisfy us with his comments, but first words of Technician were still horrific.....and we were still very worried and were told that we can consider aminiotic fluid or CVS(biopsy)of placenta, but we decided to go without it, as in any case we were not thinking of aborting as per teachings of Islam.
Those four months, I just cried and did a lot of dua's and read umpteen Quranic verses ...and upon delivery the first question I asked the Doctor, "is she normal...with no Down syndrome?"....and she smiled and said, she's perfectly fine. Alhamdollilah she's perfectly fine, but those words of Technician ruined my four precious months of pregnancy and life. Insha'Allah everything will be fine!
Re: pregnancy screening test
^thank u all.
yes i meant positive for down syndrome.
Re: pregnancy screening test
I have heard about false positives a lot.. we decided not to get any testing done and leave everything in Allah's hands... we were going to keep the baby nonetheless so we denied even the screening test.. not worth the headache!
Re: pregnancy screening test
A good friend of mine just recently had an amnio. Her results were negative with a very high pribabilty (1 in 4). She was devastated and her husband and I decided to get an amnio done. Alhamdulillah the amnio results were perfectly fine and she recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
I'm sure you're stressed out but an amnio or cvs are no longer as risky due to medical advances. And they definitely give you an accurate result as opposed to a mere probability that the initial screening does.
