^I’m talking about pre-natal vitamins that contain all of the essential vitamins plus folic acid. Unless you have a well-balanced diet and are getting all essential vitamins through your food, it would be better to take pre-natals. I am Vitamin D deficient and man, that takes a toll on your body if you don’t take that during pregnancy. I have experienced it first-hand during my first pregnancy when my wrist bones actually started hurting, plus I would get those awful cramps in my legs which are not occurring this time as I’m taking a Vitamin D supplement in addition to my pre-natals, on my OB/GYN’s recommendation .
You also need more Iron and Calcium during pregnancy, so its definitely better to take the pre-natals. As far as I know these three are essential… Folic acid, Iron and Calcium.
OB/GYNs recommend starting the pre-natal vitamins before you start TTC, although I don’t know why
