Pregnancy in Pakistan

What’s the general protocol? I mean in terms of doctor visits etc. Is it monthly like the US/Canada, with more frequent visits at the end? Do you get ultrasounds/hear the heartbeat/blood tests?

I ask cos my devrani and nand are both prego in Pak. Devrani is 12 weeks.. first baby… she has had one appointment and was just told verbally to come again near the end. She didn’t hear the heartbeat or see the ultrasound. The doctor just listened herself and said ok, ur prego. She had folic acid supplements from when she was in Canada so she’s been taking those. Nand is about 7-8ish months. Only went last month for a gender scan, this is her third baby. I feel everyone is so blah about it .. is this common?

Re: Pregnancy in Pakistan

No. I was preggo in pak 3 times and each time it was timely doc appntmnts. Doc would send me for heartbeat scan at 6-8 weeks gender scan at 20 weeks and call me to chk every month.

Re: Pregnancy in Pakistan

^ Where were u in Pakistan? Can u recommend any good doctors in Rawalpindi?

Re: Pregnancy in Pakistan

They are not as touchy feely there in Pakistan as letting you hear the heartbeat or making you see each part of the ultrasound unless you go to the hifi hospitals. Usually, doctors themselves make decisions. I am not talking about Agha Khan hospital or big hospitals like that but not everyone goes there. But yes, generally, you have regular appointments, you are given folic acid or prenatal vitamins, checked for gestational diabetes etc at a regular gynecologist.

Re: Pregnancy in Pakistan

Interesting, i was thinking the same. Both my relatives have had none of the regular pregnancy stuff done. Idk if it's out of choice but it seemed like the doctor was non-chalant about it and they themselves seem to not care. My nand is quite late in her pregnancy and she just went to the 22 week scan. That's it. She's estimated her due date on her own. No worries about high bp/gestational diabetes/anemia.

I was in Islamabad. Went to doctor syeda batool..she is in F-8.

Re: Pregnancy in Pakistan

Its depends on Dr sometime but mostly call for ultrasound at 8 weeks for heartbeat and then one more ultra sound in middle and growth scan .and routine checkup like in Agha khan in starting they don't call every week call after 4 week if everything is going ok but from last month or so I go for checkup doney week .between all these there are some tests also dine like gestional diabetes ,tetanus injections, blood tests etc. For first 3months they gave folic acid then for changing to iron tablets and calcium they call for checkup etc.
And visits are more if there is problem regarding baby weight etc.
