How much did you interact with your in-laws before marriage? Was it expected that you’d call them up and say hello? Or did you keep your mouth shut? Is it customary for the families to ring each other up and visit each other before marriage?

Hubby and I only had a few weeks in between when we met and when we had our nikkah. During those few weeks his family and I were in communication because they obviously wanted to get to know me. His family was also in touch with mine (my mom needed reassurance that his family was happy as it was love marriage!) and his whole family made us feel completely comfortable and at ease. Now after our nikkah, his siblings and I are super close as I am with his parents. They are lovely people MashAllah and our wedding is next week

However, I have seem scenarios where girls have been in touch with their in laws during the engagement phase and often it leads to arguments etc so I think it really depends on the people involved.
