So I was talking to my friend about how this British engaged couple went to Dubai, cohabited in a hotel room, went out partying with the girl ending up getting raped by a Bangladeshi labourer. The couple then went to the Police who ended up either blaming or lashing the girl (don’t know which) for having pre-marital relations with her fiance.
I said to my friend that ideally they shouldn’t have gone to a Muslim country to do something which was blatantly un-Islamic but I really did sympathise with her for getting raped. However, my friend said that as they were about to get married it was perfectly ok for them to have these relations.
This kind of shocked me because I just thought it was a bit too forward. I don’t need to explain my reasons on religious grounds or morals…it’s just not something that sits well with me.
It doesn’t matter if the the couple are in love because they STILL AREN’T MARRIED.
What did annoy me was how the UAE Police in the first instance blamed the woman for something different when she was the one who got raped. They didn’t catch the perp and she was left without any help. The police implied that she kind of asked for it.
Also, a couple of years back a British couple who had sex on the beach in Dubai were sent back home to England without any kind of reprimand. This is sheer hypocrisy! If you’re going to treat Muslims and Non-Muslims differently then it hardly does any favours for the locals who might have wanted some form of punishment for this kind of lewd behaviour.
Yeh we here in Dubai are pretty strict. Better watch out and no PDAs please. Recently someone was fined or something for kissing in public. I dun remember the details.

crap... every thing happens in duabi.. it's a evil city... i am taken away... and my wife hang around on gs too. .so no more details... .. hope you got the point..
keeping people safe and being jackasses are not mutually exclusive
police in dubai are notorious for their ill treatment for labour from pak and india
in places like kuwait and KSA as well, locals can get away with a lot
if you are foreign worker, and by that mean i dont mean high flying corp execs from europe
but if you are part of contruction crew and hail from india or Pakistan, your ability to get justice is severely limited
these same jackasses have looked the other way for ages as pakistani kids have been used as unwilling jockeys, or when filipino maids have been sexually assaulted.
Bikini is your personal choice. Just like wearing abaya is your personal choice. If we tell FIRANGIS don't wear bikinis on our beaches, there is going to be an uproar.
PDAs and kissing on the other hand is a completely different matter and there is no hypocrisy there. It goes against Islam. It goes against the "country's moral and religious values". Something that goes against that, is banned, be it in Dubai or internet in Dubai. Seee yehhhh
Folks, they are hypocrite. Why the world is still in doubt about that!! But again, everyone is hypocrite in certain areas, and we pakistanis have the honour to be on the top of list.
Coming back to dubai, the police and their agencies know very well whats going on inside hotels or whereever but they dont want to to be done in public or in other words the general public should not get effected by that. Thats the only point I've understood so far. This applies to that rape thing as well.
i dont understand how Dubai can allow women in bikinis on their beaches but ban people from kissing or becoming intimate in public.
I mean that is just the epitome of hypocrisy! just my good ol' two cents :)
As far as I understand, a woman can wear bikinis only on private beaches in Dubai...it's the public beaches where one has to dress modestly. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.
So it makes sense that people being intimate in public are arrested/fined etc.
If they didn’t allow bikinis at all hardly any Westerners would go..
‘Generally on streets, in shopping malls and in public places modesty is the watchword for women—no plunging necklines or slit skirts. Interestingly sleeveless shirts or tank tops are a No, No and if women expose their shoulders and ankles they are likely to hear passersby mutter the word, ‘Haraam’ (Arabic: حرام)—forbidden.’
**‘At public beaches the dress code is more relaxed and at hotel beaches (private) and around the hotel swimming pools, bikinis are acceptable. Some women go topless sunbathing on private hotel beaches in the UAE as is often the custom on the beaches of the Mediterranean. **It is difficult to know if such an act would be punished if police were on patrol or whether the private nature of a hotel beach somehow makes the area an international enclave.’
Am surprised any of the hotels allow topless sunbathing.. Obviously more liberal than its neighbours:
'Another complicating factor is the matter of regional differences. For instance the emirate of Sharjah has stricter laws controlling dress.
'The Decency Law of Sharjah throws the book at women of any nationality wearing “indecent dresses that expose the stomach and back, short clothing above the knees, and tight, transparent clothing that describes the body.”
**This law includes a proper wearing of the sari which must cover the whole body, stomach and back.‘’
i saw everything in dubai ...plunging necklines is such a mild topic in comparison. i was there in ramazan, and all i had to be careful of was to be careful to not eat in public. otherwise ... yeah ... any given beach, any given mall, i saw it all ...
I recall one of the news reports mentioned that the lady was treated like that by the dubai police because she was of PAKISTANI origin and because she was a MUSLIM... I think they emphasised the fact that people of PAKISTANI origin were more likely to be treated badly than their white counterparts.
