Salam Alaikum,
Once the final tally is complete, let us all hope that disappointments that are sure to simmer would quickly become fuel for performance in areas where the victory has been attained.
It is unfortunate that there is rigging, but it’s more unfortunate that grown adults would throw tantrums if the outcome does not meet their prophecized expectations. This is a process, and as such no processes are immune from errors. What matters after the fact is that the stake holders should all congratulate, merge their manifestos and find that which is common, so the main benefactor of it all becomes the public. It is afterall the public every party panders to pre-election, and post-election.
It would be very appreciative of each party to let go of egos, realize that expectations are just that; expectations. No one party’s manifesto should be taken as the supreme word of governance. Rather, take the best of each contender and form such a set up that works to benefits the public at large.
Pakistan as a whole, and we here at Gupshup have seen high tides of emotions, slogans, slanders, and everything in-between. What counts now is that all people should adopt humility. The final affair of all things is decided and steered by Allah (swt). Lets pray for betterment of Pakistan and muslims everywhere, and let us ALL work to help each other, so that the rich can take pride in helping his poor countryman attain a tolerable lifestyle. Let the proud show humility for the sake of unisome. Let the defeated take pride in the fact that they gave it their best. Let the one with a clearly larger mandate take extra measures, even go out of their way to include everyone’s perspective on how the country should be run.
It is only through mutual consultation, setting aside all vandettas, and setting sights on accountability moving forward that Pakistan can come out a winner after the elections of 2013. If not, then it’s indeed a sad state of affairs for everyone including the public.
Let not blind pride define the course forward. So many lives have been lost within the last years. Let this turn of elections be for the victory of the public, and not any one party.
