~ Pre 1914 Britain ~

I was talking to a friend and were on the issue in regards to the state of Pakistan today. After a discussion, a Question popped up that Pakistan Isnt a developed country yet!, but britain is.

So the question that came to mind was .. What was britain like and its state in terms of education, security, health, social life, and most of all how the enviroment was in terms of business .. what were the every day jobs, hw ppl lived in houses ..and what they ate in terms of was britain always as posh as it is today is it just cos its the modern day .. i.e. the fully history of it.

So anyone who can give me some info about britain pre 1914 i.e. before the First World war a birds eye view of around 10 20 years.

Thank you all for your input.

Very appreciated.

Re: ~ Pre 1914 Britain ~

Well in the deaced before World War two Britian was enjoying it's positions as the top nation on earth due to it's vast empire.

However that bygone era was nowhere near as great for the common folk of Britian.

Cholera was an epidemic just as sever to Victorian britian as it was to any Asian country back then... so it wasn't all honkey dorrey.

Also labour was terrible with working conditions as bad as any modern developing country and if you look at it closely the conditions in Victorian Britian were not much apart from what we see in Pakistan today.

Yes this last part was actually that came up in our dicussion that around 100+ years ago .. britain was no different from what we see in modern day pakistan esp the rural areas even the cities .. ofcorse minus the terrorism.

however, i still wana knw hw the living conditions were ??

btw, Idid hear that Allama Iqbal wrote a book on the history of britain.. I dunt knw if its available or not..

Minus the terrorism…?

No way! Media back then was nothing like today but there was a lot of Terrosim yaar… back streets of London was a hotbed for marxist revolutionaries who were out to kill any rich person who stood in thier way… then there was widespread panic from Irish dynamite terrorists not to mention the constant problems with Ludite style anti machinery gansters.

Brother i just have an interest in local history thats all i’m no smartass.

The IRA was formed back in 1913, but long term disputes in Ireland have been going on since the 18th Century when the first protestants emposed thier will on the native Catholics… i recomend you read Ed Molloneys book…“the secret history of the IRA” Which goes on to explain an in depth history of the struggles.

Also read up on Victorian anarchist movements… back when the London tube network was first built there was a series of bomb attacks by anarchists who opposed the modernisation and changes to society. This was a phenomena not much different to the rise of the Taliban we saw in the space of our lifetime.

Also forgotten is an event which occured in 1871 which has been forgotten by all but the Police records… it relates to the original bloody Sunday in which Londons metropolitan police targeted crowds of so called “terrorists” who were in actual fact legitimate protesters who went a bit too far…

But yeah 1890’s Britian was home to Anarchists whose beliefs were not at all religous more socialist, but whose methods and tactics would seem familiar to the likes of AL-Qaeda today.
