a very nice young man, 19 years old, a college student, an indian Muslim, who has had a heart murmur condition and now either a pneumonia or an undiagnosed illness has over come his lungs.
he is on breathing machine.
we had our retreat in our org today, which we cancelled. and all fo us, as counselors and educators, felt strongly vulnerable over his deteorating health.
he needs all positive energy and prayers to Allah swt for his health.
he is so sensitive in his condition, that he can’t be moved to another hospital and is sedated.
And if u r concerned about "ina lilahi wa ina ilaihi rajioon" then just to let u know that it has very beautiful and true meaning and Propeht Muhammad (saw) said to recite it in all desperate conditions when u r helpless (cant find anything, or someone is sick or u r in trouble)

Yeah Dushwari you don't just read it at someone's death, can be read at dire straits. Hope your student gets well soon.
he is alive, and may he live with full recovery. ameen sum ameen.

Dush Eco is right.
Ina lilahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon means no doubt we all belong to allah and we are going to return to him.
Unfortunately in IndoPak this duaa has connotation of death for some reason and that is the only time people read it.
But even back home I used whenever I heard a bad news and or in desperate situations where only Allah's direct intervention will work.
Dush, my mom was on a ventilator for two days due to a post surgical acute respiratory distress syndrome because of an infection that reached the lungs, and I can imagine how scary that sounds but a ventilators a very powerful and amazing invention, it allows the lungs to recover, while the body fights the pneumonia/infection. With new state of the art ventilators, with PEEP control, there is nothing better the body can ask for in such a state, so hopefully your student should make a full recovery if its pneamonia. How long has he been on the ventilator? Did they make any attempts to ween him off yet?
Alhamd-liAllah, my student is getting better, inshallah.
just visited him. doctors could not tell if he had a pulmunory condition, gagging, coughing scaffolded his heart murmur. he may go to have a surgery and get the weak valve repaired. he is using less oxygen by machine, but is still sedated and all kinds of monitors are on him. still, please keep him in your prayers.
