Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
i think there are bunch of recipes here in food portal.
here are some ideas:
1)marinate in lemon juice/parsleyor coriander/ salt/pepper and simply grill till cooked n a bit charred...simple but lovely. To kick it up add Cajun Seasoning powder before you grill or saute...comes out yummy and you can serve with pasta or veggies.
2)boil in mixture of water/vinegar and salt n pepper. then add it to pasta salad....boiled pasta, veggies...a little bit of dressing of choice...i just use italian...n yumm
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
I always consider prawns and shrimp to be the same thing…
…and really dont know if they are or not…
anyways,I like the shrimp biryani…if you want to do something desi style…
or,
I posted this a while ago…
(the recipe is in post # 853)
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
ooh i forgot to mention add a bit of crushed garlic to the marinade for grilled shrimp along with lemon juice/herbs/salt/pepper...etc....yummmyyy
My brothers favorite is shrimps in green 'masala'.
1 medium onion
3-4 green chilli's
1/2 cup green corriander
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 tablespoon zeera
1 tablespoon black pepper.
Blend all of the above into a paste.. in a pan heat oil and add this paste and cook till the oil seperates. Add the shrimps.. when they're cooked, add the salt.
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
how about shrimp with alfredo sauce in pasta. mmmmm.
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
These options definitely sound good … Gina , The recipe sounds good
… so what is green masala shrimp served with? rice or pasta ?
Afro , those are some good ideas
… thanks buddy i will try them for sure …
Chips, you mentioned prawn biryani ?
… would it be like the regular biryani recipes?
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
fry em. just make a batter with flour, dip and fry. it's even easier if the shrimp's pre-cooked, then you're just cooking the batter.
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
wow , thats sounds good Khumar , so just flour and the basic spices ? or do we add any other stuff into the batter ? ![]()
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
i just add salt and pepper usually. but you can add whatever you want to the batter. improvise hehe; grab whatever you think will taste good and add it to the batter.
Chips, you mentioned prawn biryani ? :@: ... would it be like the regular biryani recipes?
yup...!!...just like you would make chicken biryani...:D
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...

Re: Prawn Dilemma …
I made Gina’s green masala prawn … and even though it turned out great , I felt the prawns still had that typical prawn smell in them… should i dip them in vinegar next time?
Do you guys prepare prawns using vinegar or any other thing before cooking them?
PS : did you guys know that prawns have their eyes and all their body systems inside their little bodies? and they do not have a natural waste system , so everything stays in their body for sometime
… dont know how much of this the truth , someone told me these things recently ![]()
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
CB…sorry I forgot about the promise I made here. Will try to remember to do this from home.
btw…what makes you think that their eyes etc are inside their bodies? Have you seen a prawn before it has been shelled?
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
Muzna , someone told me this story about prawns having their eyes and stuff inside their body
… Seen them live but never so closely ![]()
So which bit of it is the eye ?![]()
Re: Prawn Dilemma ...
prawns are the same as shrimp, right?
they look so gross, but tast yummy!
CB i hope u slit them in the middle n take their insides out bfre cooking them
as for the smell past put them in a bowl n wash them with water n drain then squeeze a fresh lemon n mix thoroughly, wen ur ready to use the just add some water to the bowl n take the prawns out n use
works a treat my dad used to keep them in lemon water in the restaurant
Re: Prawn Dilemma …
sweetu this lemon thingy sounds interesting .. I use vinegar … you reckon that changes its taste? ![]()
also why did you say slit them in the middle? I just buy the small frozen packs from Asda … I thought they are ready to use
… you know those teeny weeny little round things … not the king prawns …
