We just wanna beat USA…We should have a women President B4 they do…![]()
Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
No in india the constitution allows it but we indians dont follow i think so Rajendra prasad is a good example and i also read it in one of the papers.
So its allowd in our constitution.
In that case, it's a real shame. APJ is the best we've got.

Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
Rajasthan is a very unique state
Both Chief Minister and Governer are Maharashtrians
The top three posts are women, speaker is also a women, Sumitra Singh
Rajasthan is not famous for any politicians – very few corrupt politicians.

I agree and believe me this guy is still enegetice, when one of the respondents asked APJ about PP nominated for president in the confidence he is got, and with a slight smile he said fantastic twice and overall he moves around in India and encourages the youth to educate and improve.
So let's see something which is good for educated and rational people is considered a blunder, non-relevant and futile hope things will change soon.

***New Delhi:* The UPA-Left Presidential nominee Pratibha Patil courted controversy on Sunday by saying that the purdah (veil) system emerged in India to protect women from Mughal aggressors.
Patil’s remark, made at a function in Udaipur marking the 467th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, has left historians and Muslim social activists astounded.
Patil said though Indian culture always respected women, **the veil system began during the Mughal rule to “save women from Mughal invaders”.
“We had the concept of purdah to protect women from Mughal invaders. So, they stayed indoors and were veiled, ” Patil said.
“Today we are citizens of free India. There is need to put a stop to such practices. That alone will ensure real respect for women. When women are progressing in every field, it is our duty to discontinue such practices,”** Patil added.
While historians said the veil system was prevalent much before the Mughal invasion, Muslim leaders from Rajasthan are angered and say it's unfortunate Patil chose to incorporate communal views in her address.
Varsha Joshi, a historian at the Institute of Development Studies said the purdah system existed in India much before the advent of Muslims.
"I think its absolutely wrong to say that the purdah system existed because of the Mughal invaders. It was prevalent before the Mughals came to india," she said.
Joshi also pointed out that there was evidence of the construction of a separate zenana (area for women) in the Chittorgarh fort in the 11th century.
"It would be right to say that the purdah was more an imitation rather than a strategy of defense," the historian said.
Meanwhile, Patil is campaigning hard, and has been busy meeting key leaders across the political spectrum to ensure a smooth win.
She met former prime minister and Jan Morcha leader V P Singh on Sunday.
Karan Singh, whose name was doing the rounds within the UPA before Patil was declared the consensus candidate, Union HRD minister Arjun Singh and Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee were the others that Patil called upon.

Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
I think Kalam would decline to go for it a second time.
Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
so is this just a token position like the president tarrar of bygone times, or does it actually have some influence.
seems all i see kalam do is cut cakes and ribbons and be used for point scoring
Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
honestly i dont care who becomes president, as president is supposed to be a 'rubber stamp' as far as i know.
Re: Pratibha Patil - First Women President of India
well i do care. most importantly, the rubber stamp president has enough powers to delay legislation of crappy bills, giving media and people a second chance to see what kind of idiocy their elected representatives are turning to word of law. in the indian system, president is a second layer of protection against malfunctioning of the parliamentary system. besides this, he/she is a father figure of sorts of the masses. typically, spineless presidents havent done anything in these regards, while good ones(zail singh, venkatraman, k r narayanan, kalam) have. while presidential functions might not be fully relevent in todays india, the modern state india hopes to be will need a robust functional president, and we should not allow the post to be an irrelevent lackey seat.
dadiamma sounds like the perfect spineless president so far.
