There have been a series of events in a community where a bunch of us have gotten these prank calls. Mostly targeted to immigrants from pakistan it seems here, where they say they are IRS or they are some government agency, they say crap like “We know crimes you’ve committed” or “We know you committed green card fraud” or “We know you’re here illegally”, or something or other and pay up X amount of money. One guy got really scared and nearly forked over money, but then got a lawyer involved who told him to relax, these are pranks.
What’s weird is the local masjid announced warnings to not respond to these phone calls and they’re pranks.
Hahahahaha this happened to my husband like a week ago. He was at home and i went out to do some errands and he was sleeping basically…he gets a call, picks it up and the guy says is ur name blahblah amd my husband goes yeah who is this? And the guy goes on to say sir, we have evidence that you’ve committed fraud and your documents have been illegally filed. You will be fined x amount blah blah…can you come into our office? It was later in the day like 4 PM so husband says…no, impossible with traffic and all by the time i reach you, office you will be closed.
So now the guy pauses and says ok…do u have a pen? Write down my name and address. Husband scrambles to find pen and paper and the guy goes “alright..M-Y-T-E-R B-I-N-S D-I-R-T-Y”.(my turban is dirty)..he asks my husband to repeat …hubby just says ok…myturbans dirty? And the guy goes crazy laughig his head off while my husband is sitting there listening…no reaction lol while they’re all laughing my husband goes…“uh hello? Who is this?”…and once they realized how calm my husband was they just said ok bye and hung up lol. Apparantly Howard Stern started this prank.
I was surprised my husband reacted so cool and calm…he used to have a very short fuse. But yeah ever since he’s become regular wirh namaz and listening to Islamic lectures doing reasearch he’s changed in that regard…which THANK GOD he did cos we read a bunch of stories online of guys that ended up going to some random office building or like taking the prank seriously and like u posted hiring desi lawyers (uncles from pakistan and india lol) who honestly fear monger even more. Or simple blowing up at the pranksters and then being used as like har har what a loser examples. Twas funny.
NOt just Pakistani or muslims, but many immigrants are getting such calls. My BIL got it, and also a good friend of mine who is a hindu got one from “IRS”
We traced the numbers to DC. My mom now yells at them “You stupid”. LOL. I feel so bad, she is too annoyed to pick up the phone now, so we have to leave a message so she knows it is us calling.
