PTCL ABSENT STAFF
Under the caption “PTCL’s absent staf” a Karachi citizen Mr. Feroze Shams on 13.4.2004 stated that Customer Service Centre at Defence Society Exchange opens normally after 10.00 am and that during the last one month he visited at least 10 times to find it closed. He further says when at 10.00 am it opens the staff is not available to attend.
It has not all surprised me though I have never been to this customer service centre. In 1995 DAWN staff reporter carried a feature after visiting different exchanges in Karachi that on Saturadys while subscribers and applicants remain sitting during public hours to see Divisional Engineers these Engineers remain absent as their staff tells they had gone to attend the hearings at the Federal Ombudsman Office. The feature stated that Saturday was weekly holiday (then) when Ombudsman office remained closed. I raised this matter of public interest in 1995-96 with the Federal Ombudsman. The Ombudsman as per procedure forwarded this to PTCL for usual rejoinder but later I never learnt what happened.
Some during 2001 or 2002 a sort of similar news item appeared and it was again about PTCL. The item stated that PTCL was enjoying double half days. Detail I do not remember now. On this I drew the attention of the Federal Ombudsmn to my long pending matter and quoted this fresh news item. In return I was surprised to got a communication from Ombudsman Secretarit that you have added nothing new hence case cannot be re-opened. Re-opened? When was it closed? I never got any progress, even I never got what PTCL submitted in rejoinder and when was the case closed or decision at Ombudsman secretariat taken and what was the contents of any final “Decision/Finding”.
