One reason why MQM won seat there could be that there is total absence of militant parties and organizations, and madressahs there. So under discussion were people's economic problems, instead of Islam/Amreeka/Yahood/India/etc.
And since MQM has shown its worth by appointing a mayor who transformed Karachi's landscape, people of Gilgit are hoping that MQM will seek to improve their lives with similar zeal.
