A bit rich from the man who was the first to come forward and support General Musharraf’s military coup that overthrew Nawaz Sharif, and some years later his referendum and intervening acts. No talk of democracy and the supremacy of the constitution then. Was Imran a “traitor” all those years?
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Tuesday criticised Pakistan People’s Party for holding negotiations with President Gen Pervez Musharraf. He said the PPP’s move was against all democratic norms. Speaking at a press conference, the PTI chief alleged that by entering into negotiations with a military dictator, the PPP was strengthening dictatorship in Pakistan. “It is treason on the part of the political party which has always fought against military dictators,” he regretted. Mr Khan said the All Party Democratic Movement and PTI would work together to fail negotiations between PPP and Gen Musharraf. He termed the negotiations a move to jeopardise democracy in Pakistan and said it was being done at the time when Gen Musharraf had become so vulnerable. Criticising Pakistan’s role in the war on terror, Mr Khan said the country’s forces were being used by outsiders for killing their own people. Imran Khan criticised MQM for May 12 mayhem in Karachi. He claimed that his case against MQM leader Altaf Hussain was progressing well and said he would update on the progress in September. At the press conference, Pakistan Liberal Forum chairman Asif Khan announced to join PTI. He criticised Benazir Bhutto for negotiating a deal with President Musharraf.
Re: PPP talks with govt ‘treason’, says Imran Khan
Some of the actions of Imran Khan when he was younger would mean he would be stoned by the Taliban. Yet the Taliban supporters are embracing him. Is that because he can speak English :D
