PPP most popular party: poll

This shows what will be the trend in the comming elections.

Support for Osama waning; PPP most popular party: poll

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: Sympathy for Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and the Taliban has dropped sharply in the country amid a wave of deadly violence, according to the results of a recent opinion poll. The survey also identified Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as the country’s most popular party ahead of Feb 18 elections, and said 70 per cent Pakistanis want President Pervez Musharraf to quit.

The poll, conducted last month for the US-based Terror Free Tomorrow organisation, suggests Pakistanis are looking to peaceful opposition groups after months of political turmoil and a wave of suicide attacks.

In the latest bloodshed, a bomber blew himself up at an opposition rally in Charsadda on Saturday, killing 27 people and injuring 50.

According to the poll results, only 24 per cent of Pakistanis approved of Osama when the survey was conducted last month, compared with 46 per cent during a similar survey in August.

Backing for Al Qaeda fell to 18 per cent from 33 per cent.

Support for the Taliban dropped by half to 19 per cent from 38 per cent, the results said.

Also, in a sharp rebuke to President Musharraf, 70 per cent voters think he should quit immediately.

Terror Free Tomorrow is a bipartisan group that seeks to reduce support for international terrorism.

Its advisory board includes likely Republican presidential nominee Sen John McCain and Lee Hamilton, a former Democratic Congressman who helped lead a study of the White House Iraq policy last year. The group’s president, Ken Ballen, says the advisory board plays no role in individual polls.

The survey, based on interviews with 1,157 people across the country from Jan 19-29, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Only one per cent of Pakistani voters would cast their ballots in favour of Al Qaeda if it was running in parliamentary elections, the survey results said, adding that the Taliban would get 3 per cent.

In contrast, the PPP, polled 36.7 per cent.

Pakistan Muslin League-N scored 25.3 per cent, pushing the pro-Musharraf PML-Q into third place with just 12 per cent.

Despite President Musharraf’s ‘counter-terror’ alliance with Washington and calls for Pakistan to plot a course of “enlightened moderation,” Pakistanis remain distrustful of the president and his authorities, especially the intelligence agencies.

Opposition parties accuse authorities of trying to rig the elections to prevent the formation of a hostile parliament which could impeach Mr Musharraf, who imposed a state of emergency last year to safeguard his re-election.

The poll found that 58 per cent of respondent voters suspected President Musharraf, allied politicians or government agencies were responsible for PPP leader Benazir Bhutto’s murder. Only 7 per cent thought Al Qaeda or the Taliban were behind her slaying.—AP

Can you please provide your reference to this post? Thanks

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

It did not allow me to paste the link in the main post. It still did not allow me to post it here either as it says :

"You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 25 posts or more."

However this news item was taken from

Dawn.com/2008/02/11/top4.htm

PPP means the only PPP founded by Z. A.Bhutto and supported by majority of Pakistanis. Other off-springs of main party has either very limited or no following at all.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

The poll also shows 70% want the detested dictator to quit immediately.

No doubt the Mush/MQM wllahs will come up with more excuses :cb:

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

That's true. That's why BB was and Zardari is keen on making deals with President Musharaf. They understand the ground realities. :)

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

^ so today you have been told to repeat "making deals with Musharraf... ground realities.... he is not going anywhere...." etc? cool.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

LOL, Zardari and NS have repeatedly stated Mush must go.

This Aalsi kid gets excited over any false rumour he reads

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

But people did not come out on the streets against the great leader and his popularity is only matched by Mubarik.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

Did they say 'Please' ? :)

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

^If they say 'please' will he leave?:D

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

You all meanies leave Aalsi alone alright

Aalsi, promise us you will not leave even if Mr. Musharraf does…please :@: We want to see you post as the one and only Aalsi…no multi please :frowning:

I think PPP and PML-N will form an alliance of some sort (for a while any way). The fear is, how long will the goodie-do-well attitude remain between the two. The longer the better, the bottomline is the People should not be ignored anymore. Both of these parties should have already learned a sincere lesson.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

^Zardari has hinted formation of national government even PPP wins 2/3rd majority. It means parties belonging to MMA and others with similar agenda with the exception of PML Q will also be part of future government, which is a good sign.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

Teggy bhaijan. I promise I will never leave GS. Even after President Musharaf retires. I also Promise there is only one Aalsi - despite wannabies.

With regards to your point about PPP/PML (N) being part of a coalition to form a government. That could be a possibility. However, the votes/seats will be so divided that it is unlikely that any strong coalition will be formed like last government and is likely to fall apart due to power sharing and jostling for one-upmanship.

I hope I am wrong about the coalition falling apart, because whoever forms the colation needs to provide the stability Pakistan needs over the next five years to continue with the Growth Pakistan has seen over the past eight years.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

There is no possibility of PPP/PML N coalition...because as long as illegal president is there...Nawaz League can never be a part of the government...Mr. Zardari wants to be in the government at any cost for obvious reasons...he is just playing games with N league..

If he gets out right majority...it will be ok for him but a scenario not acceptable to the illegal president (highly unlikely scenario)...the grand plan in my opinion this time is to ditch Q league....give enough seats to PPP so that they can make the government without Q league....but not enough that they would be able to make government without MQM....

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

Your comment about PPP not wanting to form a govt with PML (N) could well be right. However, from what I can see, if PPP wants to form a govt without PML (Q), then they really would need suppport of PML (N) due to the way seats will be split between the major parties. I agree with the point that MQM will play a major part in the formation of the govt.

However, if PML (N) is in govt with PPP and other coalition partners, PPP will ditch PML (N) as in reality (as you suggested) PML (N) and PPP are not natural allies. This will be a marriage of convenience, and other partners will come to the front. That is my main worry. Whoever comes to power really needs to have the stability to run the govt for the next five years, not chop and change.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

So u will stop using your different nicks??

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

There is just one and only AALSI. All the rest are immitation wannabies. God Bless them. :D

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

Avoiding the question as usual.

Anyways, we will continue to watch your multi-nicks with bemusement.

Just be aware ur not fooling anyone with it.

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

Not at all. It is you that is refusing to understand the answer. There is just one and only AALSI. Long may he continue. :D

Re: PPP most popular party: poll

There seemed to be no compromise bet PPP and Mush. PPP wants Mush out and Mush’s efforts will be to rig elections so that PPP should not come in to power. That may be disasterous for the country.

**PPP will try to remove Musharraf after next week’s elections **ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (AP): Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) would try to remove President Musharraf if it wins next week’s parliamentary elections, Babar Awan, a member of PPP’s central executive council, told The Associated Press Friday. ‘‘The ouster of Musharraf will put Pakistan back on the track of real democracy,’’ Awan said. ‘‘We will win if the elections are not massively rigged,’’ Awan said. While Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) rejected Musharraf’s warning, saying it would stage nationwide protests if it believes the election was manipulated. ‘‘We know Musharraf wants to rig the elections,’’ said senior PML-N member Siddiqul Farooq. ‘‘If he did it, we will force him to quit through street protests.’’ In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack criticized Musharraf’s suggestion that he would not tolerate protests after the election. ‘‘People have the right to peacefully protest and to peacefully speak out on their opinions regardless of whether those opinions are supportive of a government,’’ he said. ‘‘Our view…is that they should devote their energies to ensuring that this is the kind of election in which the Pakistani people can have confidence,’’ McCormack added.
