I wonder who could be arming them with weapons used by army and security forces.

Btw, you can get fotostat of italian, german guns in arms bazaars. Of course, it doesn’t mean that the firearm functions like a real glock or mp3 too but still a very decent effort. As for benazir, the newfound american love might also have to do with MP-5s?
These PPP guards probably got their weapons from government supplied looted by the PPP when they were in power before. Pakistan was making the G3 and MP5 under licence during Benazir's reigns of incompetence.

Yes, they looted the treasury when they were in power, so it is not surprising they looted the weapons stores as well
aah … c’mon man MP5 is not something out of this world. A friend of mine from Hyderabad when on ‘rotation’ was posted at 90 used to carry MP5 in '90/91. Thats when Altaf Bhai was still there.
G3 is an obsolete weapon - army has already been in the process of moving away from it.

While, no longer counted among the modern assault rifles of the world, it is no where near obsolete. That's like saying the ak-47 is also obsolete. The g3 is a large weapon with heavy recoil and takes some getting used to, but with proper training is still effective, especially at longer ranges.

That’s a very impressive bit of information you’ve provided but you missed the point here. Personal security is all about quick reaction in close quarters while as you also noted, this outdated G3 is a heavy weapon - effective mostly in longer range use. Providing BB’s security circus a few surplus toys is more of a feel good gift from Musharraf, so don’t fret over it. In the hands of them for-rent jiyalas, these weapons don’t draw any awe. I mean look at that teeli holding the G3, by the time he’ll able to get it in firing position, the whole game would already be over. And it would require at least 3 more malnourished teelis like him to bear through the recoil of this tope.
