**A powerful earthquake has struck the Indonesian island of Java, triggering a regional tsunami alert.**The magnitude seven quake shook buildings after hitting the southern coast but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
It had a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 and a depth of 38 miles (60km), the US Geological Survey said.
Panicked office workers ran outside into the streets in the capital Jakarta, according to agency reports.
