Powders to set make-up

Which ones do you ladies use? Loose vs. pressed…does it make a difference?

I’ve been using MAC Blot Pressed for the past few years and haven’t had any issues. Few months ago someone gave me a GWP size of MUFE HD Loose Powder. I’ve used it a few times and thought it was ok.

Anyone here use Laura Mercier? If so, can someone tell me what the difference is between the invisible loose powder and translucent loose powder?

Re: Powders to set make-up

^I would assume invisible loose powder and translucent powder are the same thing, just two diff names. They're used to set makeup without putting an extra layer of foundation thus keeping the makeup from getting cakey. I've heard Laura Mercier makes a great one. There are also loose powders that have some color and provide more coverage. From what I know loose powders are more finely milled, they feel and look softer on the skin. I personally use MAC pressed powder and am very happy with it. I prefer it over loose powder simply because it's compact and I can touch up regardless of where I am. With loose powders I would need a kubuki brush and would probably be dropping the powder all over me!

Bare Minerals - mineral veil. It's aite. I originally bought loose powder, which is quite good, but then bought the compact which is easy to carry around. Doesn't make a difference which one I suppose. Both set make up good and stop that awful shine you get when you sweat ugh

Re: Powders to set make-up

I use "matte and fix" by essentials,
it makes my skin matte,
and i don't like that artificial look at all

Re: Powders to set make-up

I use the MAC pressed finishing powder as well. So far it has worked quite well.
I've tried loose ones before but they are bulky and require a special brush. The pressed powder is compact and can be carried around if needed.
I also noticed that "pressing" or "patting" the setting powder onto a finished face works better for me than "dusting" it on.

Re: Powders to set make-up

eek i hate that MUFE HD powder! i also tried the laura mercier ones and didn't care for them... i have somewhat dry skin- i started using maybelline mineral power translucent powder and i like it- it doesn't have talc so it doesn't dry me out more

Re: Powders to set make-up

Ben Nye Colorless Setting Powder

and/or

Ben Nye Banana Powder

Re: Powders to set make-up

That's what I though too. But since LM actually had 2 different powders for that.....it confused me.

Muzna: Yes...I've been watching a lot of Goss videos lately and he also recommends pressing the powder as opposed to dusting it on. :)

Reha: If you had to pick 1 out of the two.....which do you think is better?

Re: Powders to set make-up

I’ve used either MAC’s Sheer/ Loose powder or Makeup Forever’s Micro Finish Powder.

But, recently, I watched a tutorial by a drag queen and she was using Coty Airspun Translucent Loose Face Powder! At first I was kind of shocked… But she used it in a few tutorials AND all of the sudden I started seeing a ton of makeup gurus using it.

SO I did go out and buy it… and… I LOVE IT!! A little goes a LONG way, for sure!
