Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

The plight of the province is evident from the fact that a forgetful dinosaur is the captain there.
Surely, democracy is the best revenge on people.

This parasitic party has been ruling the province since ages, and yet there is no change in poverty levels at all.

They want to eliminate the difference between urban and rural Sindh. But instead of bringing rural Sindh up to the level of urban Sindh, these people are dragging urban Sindh down to rural Sindh level.

**ISLAMABAD: **Recent floods, coupled with egregious governance, have **worsened living standards in Sindh where 75% of the population in rural areas is now living in abject poverty.

**
The overall poverty ratio of 43.1%, compiled by aggregating figures from urban and rural areas, does not actually convey the real picture of Sindh most of which is rural.

The province has been categorised second poorest after Balochistan among all the provinces and regions of Pakistan, excluding the militancy-hit Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Balochistan’s 84.6% rural population lives below the poverty line, according to a United Nations report.

40% Pakistanis live in poverty

The statistics revealed in the recently released study on multidimensional poverty in Pakistan were discussed at length at a seminar organised by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and International Labour Organisation.

The UN report for 2014-15 titled “Multidimensional Poverty in Pakistan” shows poverty in urban areas of Sindh at 10.6% but an alarming 75.5% in rural areas, which constitute a major chunk of the province.

The figures have been calculated with a new methodology. They cover education, health and standard of living as indicators for measuring poverty. Traditionally consumption or income level was taken as base to the count.

In Sindh’s Umarkot district, where half of the population is Hindu, 84.7% people lived under the poverty line. In 2012-13, the figure stood at 80.7% and in 2010-11 75.9%. In Thatta, 78.5% people live in poverty while the rate was 76.5% in 2012-13.

Few districts in Sindh have seen progress in alleviating miseries of people. Some showed a slight improvement one year but the situation deteriorated the next year. A slight change in weather or an untoward incident pushes the people back to extreme poverty.

Reducing poverty: Baitul Mal, BISP funds get major boost

In Tharparkar, some progress was achieved over the years but the district slipped back into the negative trend. In 2008-9, 92.1% lived in poverty, 91.6% in 2010-11 and 84.6% in 2012-13. But in 2014-15, the figure increased to 87%.

Statistics for Nawabshah, Naushero Feroz and Mirpurkhas also show similar trends. However Jamshoro is among a few districts witnessing a steady improvement over the years.

In 2008-09, 72.4% population of the district was living below the poverty line but it reduced to 70.7% in 2010-11 and 67% in 2012-13. In 2014-15, the district registered a poverty rate of 55.6% – faring better than the provincial average.

With better job and business opportunities, Karachi maintained its reputation as the ‘mother of the poor’. Poverty in Sindh’s capital stood at 4.5% in 2014-15, decreasing the poverty ratio for the province as a whole. In, 10.5% of Karachi’s population lived below the poverty line.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

I hope BBZ and Zardari will read this report. Please bring Billions of dollars stashed in foreign banks and give back to these poor people of Sindh. The money belongs to them not to you.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

**

My Two Simple Questions

*1.* When would people of Sindh be brave enough to throw these 2 Parasitic Parties (PPPP & MQM) out of power who are ruling Sindh since 1970 ?

*2.* When would People of Sindh vote for Punjab based Parties means PML-N or PTI or any other party by not considering them "Outsiders" ?

*PS: After 1947, Muhajirs themselves were "Outsiders" in Sindh & Karachi as they came from MP,UP ,Bihar etc.*

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Panchi pai lower Punjab is as poor as Sindh rural. Your leaders have also looted billions of dollars stashed this loot in foreign banks. Please ask them to bring this money and give to poor people of Punjab and rural Sindh which belongs to them not to your corrupt leaders.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

**I dont care about PML-N or PPPP or any Tom or Dick etc. Lower Punjab ( Saraiki Belt) used to be most powerful base of PPPP before Elections 2013. Still 2 Seats of PPPP from Punjab in Elections 2013 are from Rahim Yar Khan.

My Question is simple : If Punjab can vote for Zulfiqar Bhutto in 1970, infact PPPP established in Lahore & gained all momentum in Punjab. If Punjab can elect Sindhi Politician, can elect PML-Q , can elect PML-N or massively support PTI. Why not Sindhis (Urban & Rural) brave enough to throw these Vulture Parties (PPPP+MQM) out of Power once for all ?**

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Actually, those are the two kings who have been fleecing the people. They are the ones responsible for the miserable state of the people. If they don't know the situation then who does?

Regardless of who "needs" this looted money from those parasites, it makes no sense that people like you continue to support those leeches while also acknowledging their theft.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Zardari and Bilawal need to look into the plight of Sindh...including Karachi...

I once remember Hyderabad as a city which is now nothing more that a mud huts... same is with Sukhur, NawabShah, Khairpur and Shukarpur...

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

It would be difficult to herd the people into voting for PPP if they ever become educated or financially stable.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

The reason sincere people like Ayaz Latif and others are not be supported overwhelmingly by people of Sindh themselves - PPP someway or the other keep showing them shuneray bagh - We will make Lyari like Paris!

PML Nawaz is represented in Sindh by same kind of people like the ones in PPP.

Moreover there is hardly any true political party in Pakistan - JI is one but with very wrong ideology which is not applicable in today's world.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Not Karachi. Karachi has been hijacked by MQM since decades. AH should give all bhatta loot from Karachi back to people of Karachi though lots of loot gone to his black fat arse and his stomach.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

NS and his PML(N) has always played Punjabi politics. They are proud to be leaders of Punjab rather than Pakistan. Not winning single seat from Sindh is logical. Don't compare your thief leader with great ZAB who was really a national leader. Never ever he played ethnic politics like your corrupt leaders.

Coming back to topic there are still millions and millions people in Punjab who live in poverty level. Ask your leaders to bring stolen money from foreign countries including Panama which belonged to poor people of Pakistan. sala tumhara leader honest Sindh ka leader baiman. Shun this retard politics. Baiman baiman hota hay na to us ka koi religion hay na uski koi zaat. Woh badzaat sirf paisay ka pujari hota hay. Accept this fact.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Wrong. People of interior Sindh has very limited choice. They can go to vote Jiay Sindh and separatists or PPP. Which party do you want them to vote? Sindh is no more illiterate. A lots of educated people are in either PPP or with the separatists. Your logic is wrong again for Urban Sindh. So called middle class educated are still supporters of AH and his mqm the urban terrorists.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Are there any efforts to bring up a more viable option that would truly work for the people? A newer voice for the common people? I feel the afflicted everywhere be it Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, or KPK, have all got to get together and bring about a united party that would do away with the loot, and truly work for the deserving public.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Facts disagree. I hope people of rural Sindh are able to get access to quality education so they can get out of clutches of wadairas deliberately keeping them uneducated and poor.

In the top 50 districts of Pakistan in terms of education, only Karachi from Sindh makes it to the list.

Rural areas of Sindh are worse than even districts from rural Baluchistan when it comes to education.

About poverty…

Poverty in rural Sindh - Newspaper - DAWN.COM

A World Bank report titled, Securing Sindh’s future prospects and challenges, noted that, “given its feudal traditions, progressive ideas and reforms have always taken more time to take roots in the interior of Sindh than in most other areas of Pakistan. Sindh has the highest incidence of absolute landlessness, highest share of tenancy and lowest share of land ownership in the country.

“Wealthy landlords with holdings in excess of 100 acres form less than one per cent of all farmers in province, and own 150 per cent more land than combined holdings of 62 per cent of small farmers with holdings less than five acres.”

The poor also suffer from low quality public services. They have relatively lower access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. For example, while 31 per cent of the rural population of the country is connected to the drainage system, the same is true for only 14 per cent of Sindh’s rural populace. Only 10 per cent of them have access to proper sanitation facilities.

Reasons: Look at provincial assembly of Sindh. Welcome to the Website of Provincial Assembly of Sindh

Most of the members have ‘landlord’ or ‘farmer’ as their occupation. Clearly, their ‘subjects’ have little choice who to vote for.

This rather proves my logic. PPP was eradicated from Karachi and parts of Punjab as education levels improved there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

They just can't look into the plight of Sindh or Karachi, because THEY are the ones responsible for this plight.
These people can't allow development and education of their people because that will free people from their wadera rule.

PPP is nothing but a party of parasites.

Pakistan, alhamdolillah, has many corrupt parties. But PPP rules the roost. The worst of the worst. God's wrath on earth.

===

Forget rural areas, PPP's destruction of Sindh is so complete that now even Karachi, "Sindha ji Marwi", is fast moving towards the path of complete melt down.

PPP gets almost no votes from the city but unfortunately, The Marwi being the part of province, is still being ruled by PPP looters. They are in total control of law enforcement, every day running affairs of the city (KMC), (lack of) economic policies, health and education, etc. etc.
That is a horrible situation.

I pray for the people of the province everywhere, be it Karachi or Kashmore or Tharparkar or Thatta.

===

Some radical steps are needed. The situation the province is at the moment, I think a nationalist vote will be better for people of rural Sindh.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

There are choices for sure. I know many people who voted for PMLN in the last elections. Then there are some nationalist parties like Awami Tehreek. Also PMLF.

So the choice is not just between PPP or Jeay Sindh. This argument is nothing but a smoke screen. An effort to make Pakistan accept the choice of PPP parasites rule of the province.

===

It is laughable to see Bilawal call for investigation of Panama Papers when his own voters accept that his coffins are filled with looted money of the country.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Read my post again. Do you see word 'separatists? There is no other choice. PML(N) is only for Punjab, baqi soobay barh main jain are their mantra. Mumtaz Bhutto the last of Mohicans also left PML(N) due to very reason. In such prevailing conditions rural Sindh has very limited options.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Karachi was never stronghold of PPP even during ZAB’s time. It was center of JI. After general Munafiqul Haq’s ’ illegal took over he created mqm and booted out JI from Karachi. PML(N) in connivance with ISI created IJI and ‘jag punjabi jag’ mantra to discount leaders from other provinces contesting elections from Punjab. Education was never a major factor in elections of Pakistan.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

Yes, I saw the word 'separatists' in your post, and I don't think all other parties beside PPP are separatists.
PMLN may be Punjab-centric, but what exactly has Sindh-specific PPP given to the people of Sindh? Obviously it has only looted the city, the province, and the country.
So for many Sindhi speakers, PMLN with Sindhi leadership is an alternative to PPP.

Ayaz Palijo's Awami Tehrik is another alternative.

And Pir Pagara's Muslim League Functional is another.

So please don't say that you have no other choices besides PPP and separatists.

But let's say it is really true that there is no alternative besides PPP and separatists. It STILL does not justify voting for PPP. Because it will give PPP alligators like Bilawal and Zardari the impression that they can continue with their looting and still manage to win the Golden Goose City and the rest of the poverty stricken province.

In such situation, it is better to abstain from voting. It will be the message to PPP leadership that their policies are unwelcome.

I do the same with MQM. I don't like Altaf's violent politics which has played its part in destroying my city. If I don't see anyone worthy of my vote besides Altaf's Company then I will not vote for anyone.

When enough people do this then it will send the message that people may not be voting for other parties but they are not happy with Altaf's Company either.
If enough people don't do it and we are unable to change the outcome at all, still at least our conscience will be satisfied. We can say that at least I am not responsible for inflicting that party on us.

Re: Poverty afflicts 75% people in rural Sindh

This is not going to happen. The situation will continue for many years to come.
