Uff kids!!!
When I was training my son, he was almost 2 yrs old. And boy was it hard or what.. I agree with you about them being ready, otherwise it’ll just be a waste of time. But at that time, I was getting too much pressurized by others to have him trained. So I just had to :-\
I remember he’d sit near the bathroom door on the carpet and did his business then used to come to me and tell me, Mama! Potty! ![]()
I remember that time and I am just glad that the disgusting period is just over but oh well… another one in the line ![]()
Once he was sitting on the toilet seat, making all those funny faces.. I asked him if he was done or not, he said no. Then I went inside and got busy.. After a few minutes I realized that he was still in the bathroom and wasnt making any sound.. I went inside to find him dipping the toilet bowl brush in the stuff and rubbing the brush all over the bathroom.. all the walls, toilet seat, the floor were covered with his product ![]()
I asked him what he was doing?!
He said cutely.. I am cleaning ![]()

Re: Potty training!
I batted my head against the wall with my first guy. He wasnt ready at all till he was almost 4. My middle one was out of diapers in the same week as his older brother.
Lesson learned....when they're ready, they're ready. Dont bat your head against the wall if you have a late bloomer, its just extra stress that you dont need.
Ur totally right u know that. I have friends who brag that our kids potty trained at thisw age blah blah blah and r horrifed that i havnt started my daughter on that whole ordeal. howeva she'll b 3 next month and starting nursery so i thought i might give it a go but only when i think shes ready. Ive got enuff going on as it is let alone having to deal with that as well esp when shes not even ready! What a palava!
Re: Potty training!
I had my daughter quite young and bless her cos she was totally unplanned EVERYTHING abt motherhood was a total shock to the system esp as none of my friends were even married let alone popping babies out. Howeva NOTHING can prepare u for those gross nappies. In the beginning i refused to change any of them and got my hub and mum to do them all. Mind u, u do get used to them cos u have no choice! But i am totally dreading potty training my daughter cos i think it’ll b really gross. ![]()
Re: Potty training!
the grossest thing is emptying the pot. uughhhh... i cannot imagine doing that. our current bargain is, he cleans the cat litter and i will do diapers. yeah... thats gonna last! :p
Re: Potty training!
Our youngest one developed high affinity with water as soon as he started to walk recently. Like most other kids, he is the noisy explorer making full use of his new found potential. It is rare to find him not making funny sounds, which is fine with us, as it tells us when he is out of visual range that he is alright. So recently, we were talking and in the midst of talking we realised that the young one is not making any more noises. We rushed and found him half hanging inside the WC splashing water at the bottom. Later, we caught him a couple of more times before realising that he just gets totally mesmerized by the sight of water anywhere.
Re: Potty training!
I was four years old when I was potty trained. :(
I'm dreading when Ill have to train my lil ones :(
I can't even be in teh same room when they're changing Shaan's diaper, as soon as I smell something I hand him to ammi.

Re: Potty training!
You know, I've gone thru it with 3 of them now and have seen other parents go thru it too. Maybe in some ways I'm too "soft" (actually I KNOW I am...in some things!) but really how much does it truly matter how young they were when they were potty trained? I've seen some parents go thru the most amazing stress because they were determined to be done with potty training before age 2. This does nothing but create stress and resentment but the parents can strut around like they have a budding einstein cause they trained early. I knew my youngest was ready at about age 2.5 but family life was very crazy with my dad being so very sick. We just put off the training till things settled down and - guess what? It was almost a non-event. I put underwear on him, told him that he has to go on the potty now, NOT in underwear, keep the Big Boy underwear all dry. And he DID. No fussing, no tears, no stress. So I am very proud that it was just so easy which matters to me so much more than his age. Isnt this better? for everyone, not just for the mom to be "done with diapers".
