posting resumes online

Hi All, I wanted to know if ppl have had positive experience with posting resumes online … is it really work applying to jobs through websites such as monster or careerbuilder? Also, I’ve heard that it is better to fax in your resumes rather than emailing them??
My personal experience has not been the greatest!! especially in my field “biotech” a lot of the job listings I see on moster or careerbuilder are mysteriously missing when looked on company’s website??

Re: posting resumes online

I have had excellent results with posting resumes online. while networking is the way to go, if your skills are a match for the postion and the recruiter sees your resume, u have a very good shot.

My current position, a headhunter saw my resume on Monster and approached me for this position he was tryign to fill. my last position, I saw the job on hotjobs and applied there but knew the EVP of marketing in that company as the comany was a former client, and he told HR that he knw me. prior to that I was with Andersen, they also found my resume on monster, at that time through my contacts I had been intereviewing with Deloitte and ATKearny, but IBM and Andersen had both found me on monster and in the end I decided to go for Andersen.

Re: posting resumes online

In my office, we sometimes browse Monstor if need to hire someone but usually it is for lower level positions such as reception desk or data entry kind. But I've heard that people do find mgmt level jobs through these sites as well so I guess there is no harm in submitting the resume.

Re: posting resumes online

Same as Pir Sahib, I'm a big fan of online resumes, both for looking for jobs or looking to hire people. Fax is just so mid 90's. But then it depends on where you're looking. e.g. if you're looking for a position in management in some not so tech savvy company in a third world country they may not even check their emails regularly.
