posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

hi guys, im sorry if this has already been asked but i need to send a suit back to pakistan and i was wondering what the best way ofdoing this is? I’ve had a quote from DHL and they are asking for £70!!! that is a ridiculous amount and i really dont to pay that amount !!! Have any of u used the normal post office ie Royal Mail? is it reliable? I’ve just got visions of my outfit being lost in the post, which would be a complete nightmare. Unfortunately i havent got anybody going to pak either. Any other suggestions plz as im starting to get stressed about this now?

thanks in advance

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

I've used royal mail to send some fabric (which was quite expensive), the p&p wasn't too bad but there is no tracking or insured service. It got there fine though. It is a risk if your outfit is expensive.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

Try Aramex - www.aramex.com
They’re comparably cheaper but just as reliable.

Also, IIRC Royal Mail has an ‘International Signed For’ option where you can’t track it but the recipient has to sign it off and you’ve got insurance too.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

I don't think it works for Pakistan (international signed for), even though it comes up on their website. When I actually went to the PO, they said they can't do it for Pakistan.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

Naah, it works for Pakistan too but I think there is a weight limit of 2-3kg (I'm not sure on the exact weight). You just send it through regular mail and add a premium for the 'Signed For' and insurance part. The only problem is the no tracking part which is why I'd say go for a proper courier service.

Also, you can look at Royal Mail Parcelforce. Its pretty cheap too.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

thanks guys, really appreciate your input. I'll check out aramex when i get home.
Stoppit, i hadnt realised there wasnt a tracking option with royal mail, that makes me even more nervous .
I dont understand how DHL charges can be sooooooo high. :(

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

My packages have always been less than that in weight. I'm pretty au fait with Royal Mail shipping options since I've sold a lot of stuff on ebay in the past. I will check again but I had an argument at the PO the first time saying that the website says that this service is available for Pakistan but they were adamant that it could only go as a regular airmail packet.

Brummie, I looked at Aramex just now coz I was interested too and it costs £30 for 1kg to Pak. And that's the normal DHL charge for a personal customer. Even from Pak, up to 1kg to the UK costs something like Rs.7,000. The only reason the vendors can do cheaper is because they either have a business account or they are going through someone else who has a business account.
Parcel force global value, which takes from 8 days costs £33 for 0.5kg and there is no tracking.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

I had a Pakistani friend who used the International Signed For to send stuff across for his extended family sometimes. Maybe they've changed the rules since then, but I remember him signing up for insurance and all. And yeah, you send it across using regular Airmail but the extra benefit is the insurance mostly. You just get a certificate/receipt that tells you the entitlement. That's what I was implying earlier.

Woah really? I've used Aramex in the past and its been pretty reasonably priced. I suppose things have changed there too. I just use FedEx now, we have a corporate account at work so it only costs me 15-50 pounds to ship 5-25kg anywhere in the world. Score!

I suppose just look at the more established courier services and make a decision based on how valuable that dress is.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

Well I will check again coz I'm curious to know. If you do the price checker, Int Signed for is only tracked within UK anyway. If it's still signed for on the other end and insured, that's okay but I have my doubts based on experience.

Yup, if you have a business account, it's a lot cheaper but otherwise for one off parcels, the prices are insane.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

I've sent stuff to pakistan before via normal royal mail and its never arrived sob. Apparently stuff gets stolen in pakistan so bit risky. DHL may be expensive but is definitely safer.

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

I used to send my nieces Barbie cards for birthdays and not a single one ever got there..:(...they would take the card and deliver an empty envelope...go figure!!

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

oh nooooooooooooooooo CO, yaar i wanted some tusullee not horror stories about our desi postmen LOL!!
I really am confused now, i think Allah ka naam lai kur i'll send it via Royalmail and then curse myself for not listening to all my GS sistas when the damn thing goes missing in the post :(

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

O nay yaar, this is going back a few years now and I'm sure things have improved ;).

I'm going to be a real sticky beak and ask why are you sending a suit back?....yahi sell kardo na!

Re: posting a parcel from the UK to Pakistan

^My sister sent birhtday cards to some cousins in pakistan about 3 years ago and some of them never arrived. Brummiebird if the item you want to send is very important or and expensive, dont go royal mail!
