POST MORTEM of the Pak vs. India Series

Ok for all those guppies who feel at the moment like :frowning: :crying: :yukh: :frusty: :teary1: join in for suggestions

Inzi: Godd batting in Patches and the worst Captain Pak had as long as i can remember

Yoyo: Good in patches but keep dropin catches … need catching practise at th is level ???

Yasir: Get some mental treatment (u need to be cured from afridi-Virus which befalls u in patches)

Taufeeq: Mr Shuffeling across … i fail to understand why u need to do a TANGO before playing every ball

Imran: Get some lesson from Saeed about the role of an Opener … no not in Mazbhi Taleemat but in Cricket

Asim: U r the only one i salute in this lost cause … please please don’t try to get any advice from our socalled senior cricketers … this may mean the end of u … whatever happens always remember u’ve to pull “Bevan + Dravid” for Pakistan

Kamran: A very good keeper and a good prospect for the future … go on and ask Parthiv how to Bat

Sami: If u want to get some wickets in future matches just stay away from Shoaib on+off the field … if he field at 3rd man then u better field at long-on … u know what i mean … good batting though

Danish: Keep it up Dani u r our future in spin … for u the same advice as Asim

Umar: Keep it up … just bowl the way u enjoy and u know Laxman & Co. r urs …

Fazl: I 1st thought Sidhu was right suggesting u should’ve come to bat without a Bat !!! But then i’m glad u proved him wrong … well Test-Level isn’t something for u man … just keep playin domestic unless u pull something special

Miandad: Why u wasting ur time + nerves with this bunch of the most unprofessional lot entering a cricket ground i’ve seen ever ???

Post Mortem

Someone asked for a thread on taking stock and I’ve got a few thoughts about it. Firstly we should recognise that because we lost that is partly due to India’s quality especially Balaji and Pathan’s bowling which was consistent and excellent throughout. I thought they were outstanding :k:

Still one thing which sticks out to me like a sore thumb is the lack of professionalism in our team which we have never seriously addressed. Imran Khan always harped on about our lack of 1st class cricket structure and it shows. Indian structure is much better developed and you can see it in their batsmen’s tchnique and discipline. Our guys in comparison sometimes look as if they are newly arrived from playing tape ball in some side alley. Afridi, Nazir, yaasir…ring a bell?

India’s coach and our coach are also a big contrast. Miandad is constantly seeking praise when we win then blaming the players when we lose. John Wright just stays mostly quiet but ALWAYS backs his players in public when he does open his mouth.

We need to ask a few questions of ourselves at the top. Why do Pakistani bowlers fail to use the new ball properly in this day and age? Do we require a bowling coach? Why don’t we know what type of wicket we play best on at home and appear to change our minds after every match? Probably because no one really has much idea.

Personally I don’t think there’s that much wrong with the players individually but we still don’t play as a unit and that’s been a problem throughout our history. Someone really needs to put their hands up and accept responsibilty for that.

Mods merge this thread with the other one which was posted before mine I think.

Positives from the series -
India - Finally a tail that wags, emergence of Balaji/Pathan as frontline bowlers, discovery of Yuvraj as a test batsman and last but not the least - a thorough professional approach.

Pakistan - Kamran Akmal ( a wicketkeeper who can bat ) ,Asim Kamal (for his spirit) ,Umer Gul ( who rattled probably the second best batting line-up in the world) Mohd Sami ( for his diehard spirit on the third day)

Negatives
India - Fielding gets sloppy in patches...wicket keeping still a cause for worry. The bowlers still cant deliver the knock out punch..twice they let the tail score more than 100 runs.

Pakistan - less said than better - a Manager who thinks he is a captain and a captain who does not think at all. Superstars who does not perform. Fielding. Lack of batsmen who can occupy crease.

i guess its back to drawing boards for PCC. Lets hope when India-Pak meet again in Aug at ICC champions trophy- they will take it to the Indians and who knows deliver the knock out punch?

You mean Kamran Akmal as the wicket keeper?

yeah I meant that

Pakistanis should not be too disheartened. Pakistan did win one test against the mighty Indians.

Pakistan performed the best they could against the second best team in the world. No point saying Shoaib or Sami could have done better. Indian batsmen were just too good for these average bowlers - please don't make excuses for your bowlers.

I dont wish to sound so negative and pethatic in my comments, but the reality check is in order now.
Pakistan never had a convincing win ever since the days of Sarfraz Nawaz, Imran Khan and then the 2 w’s and 2 SAAS ( Saeed Anwar & Amir Sohail) :hehe:
The down fall came when PCB had to bring its own house in order. They never understood the importance of Captaincy and the roll of grooming talents.
1996-2004 PCB’s priority has been more commercial than the benefit of cricket grooming. Negligence of Karachi center is a part of this crime..
After the consistant injuries of Mohd Zahid and his non contribution to the Pak cricket, there were no red flags going up. on the contrary the domestic system mould is still being used to determine the “achaa player and the nikama player”
Sami/Shoaib and other fast bowlers who are in and out of the squad are not upto the mark of International competence.
This lust for fast bowlers and winning pleasures came to Pakistan when more cricket was being played with West Indies and Australia.
Pakistan as cricketing nation should be playing more matches with these 2 nations.
Pakistan can not afford to play this kind of cricket in its own back yard with B’desh , India and be thrashed about and then step into the
the international scene to play competitive cricket.

In conclution, for a start Pakistan needs a Top class team Physio / Bowling coach Waqar Younis / and a batting coach, any one but Miandad.
Other grooming/ganme tactics are being taken care of at the cricket acadamy in Lahore. One should also be in Karachi for Batting specialists
More Tournaments should be introduced on the domestic levels with the participation of the private sector. This will surley lift the players standards and their fincial worries.

ZERO_ONE: SO TRUE!!!!!!!
RAINDANCE: AGREED!!!

Gone are the days when Pakistan used to beat up on India anywhere and everywhere regardless of venue. Gone are the days when bowlers like Imran Khan, Aaqib Javed, Abdul Kadir, Wasim Akram etc and batsman like Javed Miandad, Sarfaraz Nawaz etc used to strike fear into the hearts of the Indian team. And certainly gone are the days when India entered an innings against Pakistan with a losing attitude while Pakistani team prowled about the field.
But now the tides have turned, the situation has reversed, the hyena has somehow gotten one up on the lazy lion. Get used to it folks, Pakistani team sux! From top to bottom it lacks depth, soul, and a sense of pride. No matter how hard he tries, Miandad is unable to get through the thick skulls of our openers; Inzi despite being a world class batsman has been unable to prove worthy as a captain; our selectors are not doing much of a job either.

Pakistan's performance was mediocre at best and abysmal at worst. As an avid fan of the Pakistani cricket team I see no brightness in their future. I see them losing match after match to India and other teams that can show some worth while only winning matches against teams like Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
This defeat has delt a significant blow to not only our national team but also to fans like myself, shook to the core our confidence level, and shifted our winning attitude to that of a losing one. COME ONE, COME ALL: MAKE POINTS OFF PAKISTAN!
PAKISTAN DESERVED TO LOSE MORE THAN INDIA DESERVED TO WIN!

Shamsheer ul Haq

rite on shamsheer !

To clarify one point here is when we talk about Players or ex players
capabilities its not neccessarley to critisize them , but their coaching or application methods should be questioned.

Inzi is a great players. But not a good skipper meterial.

Miandad is a legend, but not a teaching coaching type fella
Imran khan, his influence on young crickerts should be exploited
Waqar younis, Does have the frame of a good coaching/teacher mind

Any other player who shows lose temperament must be refered to a psychatric appointed by PCB.

Team should have RHB/LHB openning pair (speciality to play an anchore roll)

2 Left arm fast bowlers .
Call back Mushtaq and Saqlain. keep them in the team even for several years.
Special bowlers require special wicket keepers
2 middle order all rounders ( who also would be groomed further by playing county cricket)

Pakistan cannot afford a batting coach! It is not because they don't have the money or lack facilities but because the players can't speak English!!!!!!!!!! During one of the test matches an Australian commentator brought up a very interesting point: He said that one draw back for Pakistan is that its players cannot speak english well enough. This obstacle hinders their chances at drawing water from an international sea of better coaches. Until and unless Pakistani players can put a decent English sentence together, they will be limited to only Urdu speaking coaches.

I believe Wasim Akram is a better coach for Pakistan than anyone else. Everyone knows that Wasim coached Irfan Pathan on his bowling action and what not. Just look at Irfan Pathan's swing! He is almost like a carbon copy of Wasim.

Shamsheer ul Haq

not everybody in the Indian team speak english either.. Sehwag, Pathan, Kaif, Harbhajan Singh etc. infact most of the new guys are pretty poor in english but that obviously hasn’t been a problem…Nobody knows that Wasim coached Irfan Pathan, you can’t coach someone in 3-4 weeks time.. be realistic…

True. Ramiz interviewed Shewag in urdu today after he won the man of the series award. I dont think language barrier is that big a problem.

Whatever happened inside the team is another issue but outsiders put undue pressure on pakistani team. Look at indians ex cricketers, seldom you saw any negative comments from indian cricketer. Yes criticism is healthy but like Inzi said that unfair critisicm hits you really bad. People Like imran khan, Zaheer Abbas, Intikhab alam, Rashid Latif needs to support team when its down.

Pakistani people tend to support the results rather than the team and its really heartbreaking sometimes.

But yes there are certain areas which needs immediate attention and wi ill put my two cents.

And this tour wil tell us whether we've learned something or not ....... A tie would be great victory if the current is going to tour ...... but i guess we'll be outthought, outplayed in every department of the game ...... Better some players go to their Indian counterparts and ask how to face these mighty Aussies !!!!!!!!

So they need to play a three-way tournament to hand out be-izzti to Malaysians. Well, ok.. we'll take it. Helps with the rankings and records. Indians do it too. We should do it as well.

So, after May.. we should then start looking at Oct to get some wins? Beech mein tau niri beizzti hi honi hai. :-\
