An outstanding showing in the Champions Trophy has seen Chris Gayle move up to the second place in the latest ICC player rankings for ODI batsmen. Gayle has also overtaken Shaun Pollock as the top one-day all-rounder. Gayle’s current tally of 804 rating points is the highest he has ever reached. He is now 17 points behind Mike Hussey, who retained his position as the highest-ranked ODI batsman in the world.
Among bowlers, McGrath has taken over from Brett Lee as the highest-ranked Australian ODI bowler and has moved up four places to number two.
Kevin Pietersen is another big mover in the player rankings for batsmen. He did enough to move up three places to a personal best of third.
Another man who has moved up the order was Daniel Vettori of New Zealand, who is now 10th on the ODI allrounders list, his personal best.
Re: Post-ICCCT Rankings: Gayle in prime form; McGrath, Pieterson, Vettori witness boost
Yes Pakistan is rightly at # 4, after their dismal performance in ICC CT they were supppose to slip down the ladder, however I don't share the same sentiement that they can't make the upward progress, All is not lost, Gul, Nazir, Razzaq, Kaneria and other bowlers (all-rounders) can handle the pressure, its about how the batting line up handle the pressure, once again (seems like a phata huwa dhool banging again) openers?? we dont have a decent specialist opening pair, if the think tank and management thinks Hafeez and Farhat are the solution then stick with them regardless of their failure(s) and let them succeed or fail for good! (a time frame 10 test &/ 20 ODIS).
Re: Post-ICCCT Rankings: Gayle in prime form; McGrath, Pieterson, Vettori witness boost
^ If Gul, Nazir, Razzaq, Kaneria and other bowlers can help us do the upward climb than you are badly ignoring what Shoaib and Asif have done for our team. It is impossible now to compare Pakistan with the likes of South Africa and New Zeland, before the ban we were rightly the number two team in the World.
