I am due by the end of Febuaray 2014. I am not residing in PAK and unfortunately or fortunately don’t have luxury of family help for the time being.
I am thinking to make kebabs, (SOUPS) yakhnis, and boiled meat from yakhni in advance to freeze. Please Can you suggest some desi foods that I can cook and freeze in advance. Give me some ideas for make ahead home made healthy food to be eaten after baby.
Bhoonofy qeema and freeze in portions, boneless chicken masala, make mutton masala and you can add veggies like potatoes for a quick Aalo gosht. Haleem freezes well but the daals like chana daal may make baby gassy if you are feeding. Freeze koftay.
I made shami kebabs, chicken kebabs, lasagne, half cooked chicken n meat Salan to which I later added vegetables. Also made haleem. Kofte also freeze well.
Seekh kebabs
Shami kebabs
Samosas
Chicken tikka masala (I would add red onion/green bell pepper to it later)
Chicken pot pies
Manicotti (spinach/ricotta filling)
Puff pastry puffs (filled with minced beef or shredded chicken breast)
Chicken corn soup (don’t add the egg before freezing)
Hey , I was in the same boat with my first born ..
I didnt focus too much on the kebabs .. but something that really helped was preparing the basic salan masala and freezing it .. like, you bhoono the onions, add in ginger garlic tomatoes , spices .. when its ready .. cool it and freeze it .. After delivery the ease will be in take the masala out and add in the vegies or meat and it will be done in no time ..
Other then that, I started saving and freezing 4 servings out of every dish I made almost a month prior to DD. that reduced the pressure significantly off me ..
you can freeze, vegies, daal’s , meat dishes and even roti’s
I made about 50 roti’s and froze them , since we dont get fresh ones easily in the market ..
you can also do pulao yakhni and freeze it .. then when you wish to use it , it wont be more then a 10 minute job to do pulao !
I like the bhonifing Masaala ahead idea. I usualy do make kebabs (shamis & chapl) every 3 weeks so should be doing that too.I hate making rotis these days but cant eat naas either…
On the other note did you girls have any less whelming recipie of panjiri ( there are so many ways on Internet). I want to give a shot on that too..
I Miss my mom, I With She could make It
