Post deletions

If ur post in any thread is deleted, r the mods/admin supposed to let u know y?

Re: Post deletions

ofcourse not. god forbid if such courtesy is ever shown, thats goes the principles of modship.

Re: Post deletions

I know. They shud though.

Re: Post deletions

I will speak for myself. I usually close the thread after writing the reason. Similarly, when I delete replies or threads, usually I would let the poster know that the thread/reply has been deleted. But it depends on whether the user is new or old and knows the obvious reason or not. Sometimes people do things on purpose to piss me off and in that case, no, I don't give any reasons because it's obvious what they are doing is wrong and they are doing it on purpose.

Re: Post deletions

^ Makes sense...wot if the thread isn't closed and u weren't the threadstarter, but u notice ur post has been deleted? I'm not trying to make this a big issue, but isn't it better if the person who deleted ur post cud just PM U to simply let u know y (since they were the ones who deleted it i think they shud PM the poster, rather than the other way around)? This way the poster knows wot went wrong, and can avoid it in the future.

Re: Post deletions

I will speak for myself again:

Most of the times, people know why the post was deleted, but lets assume people didn't know: I sometimes remove 20+ posts per day. If you (in general) are thinking I will sit there and PM each poster why their post was deleted, I think you are asking a little too much. Like I said, most people know the reason but tell me this: Would it be better and easier if I PM 20 people whether they need to know or not or about 5 people PM me and I reply to 5 PMs and explain them why the post was removed?

And you admit it too, it's not a big deal if a post gets deleted, and I also don't think it's not a big deal if you just PM the moderators (put all of them in recipient box) and ask them why your post was removed? Sometimes it may not be your post that was bad: i.e. Someone posted something that needed moderation and you quoted that person, not only does the original post gets deleted, but your reply also gets deleted because it had the quote in it. It's better to remove the whole reply than to just edit and delete the quote and leave the reply there.

Re: Post deletions

Good point. I wasn't even sure how forums are moderated, that's y i was wondering...thanks for giving me an answer.

Re: Post deletions

My pleasure. You can always PM any of the mods or me any questions you may have. I was going t say "or ask me on MSN" but I am back in New Orleans and can't come on MSN anymore :)

Re: Post deletions

:smack: U and ur MSN issues  But i’ll PM if i have anymore questions, thanks for being so helpful.

P.S: Wish u the best with settling back into ur house

Re: Post deletions

Lets take this talk on PM :)

Re: Post deletions

As Shikra said mods do not always have time to send PM's to everyone regarding deletion of posts/closing of threads. Posters can send PM's to mods to enquire about such matters.
