Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

so basically, my mom’s choker is a laccha. cool!! eee! im so excited to wear it, it looks kick ass. she’s also got the same one mum has.

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

^ she's also wearing a sari, witha duputta...looks totally awesome

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

Nope. You can’t really tell from that pic, but she’s actually wearing a khara dupatta. She has the actual ‘khara’ dupatta (which is as long as a saree) pleated and pinned on in the traditional Hyderabadi style over her shoulder, and is wearing a matching, lighter dupatta to cover her hair. A lot of times, since the dupatta is so heavily embroidered (the qameez and churridar tend to be a little on the plain side, while the dupatta is the focal point of the outfit), it doesnt drape very well when you try to cover your head with it, so people like to wear a lighter, softer dupatta to cover their heads, and just pin the main one on like youre supposed to.

Here’s a full length pic:

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

I think it was a google image search for either ‘barat’ or ‘walima’, then a bunch of pics came up  but sorry i don’t rmr the exact site

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

That makes more sense. Do they always wear churidaar outfits (since u mentioned it below)?

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

A khara dupatta is always worn over a churridar payjama, and most traditional Hyderabadi brides (especially ones from old aristocratic khandaans) still wear khara dupattas at their weddings. Its pretty big in their culture.

I've noticed that you hardly see them among Hyderabadis who migrated to Pakistan...I don't think I've ever seen one in Karachi. I think its something more common among 'pukka' Indian Hyderabadis.

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

Yah -- but those seemed more graceful to me. This also doesn't seem to fit her well.

the dulhan is looking very beautiful.
Nice colour and nice kaam, and she as a nice set which looks good with her outfit.

Her sharara/gharara is beautiful, nice kaam and good colour but the top/kameez doesnt suit with the peach colour.
But the ladies with her have beautiful necklaces.

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

i heart khara dupattas! i had one made a loooong time ago for my phoppo’s wedding and i remember what a huge pain it was to get the dupatta pinned up. it really is a very heavy dupatta.

her is really very lovely too… very nice!

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

I don’t think it’s ugly…not something I’d prefer for myself though, its just very unique and different…

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

BTW some of the picures I posted were from 2004, and I think that color combo (red and pink) was in back then...

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

Personally i think the jewellerys ok BUT i dont like the gharara…not sure what it is abt it…but theres something i dont like.

Re: Post Bridal Make-up Pics real Weddings would be great

for me it was a couple of things. first of all its pink, while the rest of the dress is red and silver. the other thing is that its too party like...not shaadi enough. while walking there is like space between the 2 legs...and with a bridal gharara there should be no empty space seen..and yet it should still look like a gharara.
