Provinces asked for details of cases against Sharifs

The federal government intends to arrest Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister and chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and his brother, former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, on their arrival and has sought details of cases against them from the provinces.

**“The Interior Ministry has directed all the provincial inspectors general of police (IGPs), intelligence agencies and home departments to provide details of the cases against Nawaz and Shahbaz before September 10,” **official sources told Daily Times on Thursday.

The sources said that the orders were issued to the provincial IGs on September 3, but details of not even a single case have so far been provided to the ministry. They added that the government may try to implicate the two leaders in the Margalla Towers case being heard by the Supreme Court.

Quoting officials, the sources said that Ramzan Khokhar — owner of the collapsed Margalla Towers — was allotted land in F-10 Markaz during Nawaz Sharif’s regime in the early 1990s on the recommendation of his brother Abbas Sharif. “Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah may appear in the SC on September10 in the Margalla Towers case with the relevant record,” said the sources.

They said that the intelligence agencies were actively engaged in devising a strategy to deal with the situation when the Sharif brothers arrive in Pakistan. They added that the government had also reviewed the legal and security situation in line with the SC order allowing the Sharifs to return to Pakistan.

During different meetings held at the Interior Ministry, officials were of the view that the government agencies may face tough resistance from PML-N workers if the government tried to arrest the Sharif brothers at the Islamabad airport. The Interior Ministry would chalk out a contingency plan in a day or two whether or not to impose Section 144 in Punjab and Islamabad to stop the PML-N workers from gathering outside the Islamabad airport on September 10.

** The sources said that the federal government was also concerned over the MMA-led NWFP government’s offer of safe landing at the Peshawar airport to Nawaz Sharif.**

Notices issued to govt, others on plea seeking Shahbaz’s arrest

** LAHORE**: Anti-Terrorism Court-III Judge Shabbir Hussain on Friday issued notices to the government and other respondents on an application seeking the arrest of former Punjab chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on his return to Pakistan as the court declared him an absconder in the Sabzazar shootout case.**

**The judge also issued notices to the Sabzazar police station house officer on another application seeking the seizure of Shahbaz’s property. Saeeduddin, a complainant in the Sabzazar shootout case, filed the applications through his counsel, Aftab Ahmad Bajwa. **

**The applicant said that Shahbaz returned to the country in 2004 but the government sent him back with mala fide intention. **

**Saeeduddin accused the government of protecting the killer of his sons. He said police officials had court orders to arrest Shahbaz because he was a court absconder. He requested the court to direct police officials to arrest the absconder the moment he returned to Pakistan.
**
An anti-terrorism court of Lahore had declared Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Muhammad Tariq Asghar absconder and also separated their trial.

An FIR was registered on the directions of the Lahore High Court. According to the FIR, police raided the house of Saeeduddin on April 21, 1998, took his son Salahuddin to the police station and demanded Rs 5,000 for his release. The complainant said he read in the newspaper on April 27, 1998, that his son and Wakeel, Waseem, Haider and Abdul Rauf were killed in a police encounter. **He alleged that this whole encounter was held on the direction of Shahbaz Sharif. **

The other accused in the case included former Lahore senior superintendent of police Ahmad Raza Tahir, DSP Umar Virk, Muhammad Asghar, ASI Zulfiqar Ahmad, ASI Lala Roshan, Head Constable Noorul Hassan, Constable Abid Hussain, Shamshad Ahmad, Munir Ahmad, Muhammad Riaz, Manzoor Ahmad and Hakim Ali.

Re: Possibility of Sharifs’ Arrest

Interesting to note, what does this “special court” operate under (jurisdiction)? Why didn’t they issue such ‘notice’ 1-8 years ago, why suddenly now? Is there some “hidden” pressure to do it? or is it a “new” case filed?

Re: Possibility of Sharifs’ Arrest

The Sharief family is one of cleanest in Pakistan- Big tind provided clean governance. After Zia ul haq, I respect this guy- he had great plans for all major cities of Pakistan- Sialkot, Mutlan, Lahore, Gujranwala, Lyallpur etc. Nothing cud happen eventually cuz of mushy :naraz:

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

^^ Abbey chal, had plans for multan.

Central punjabis don't give two hoots about seraikis.. This is why you have had some MQM base in there. One of the reasons of the karachi operation in the nineties was to weaken the MQM in their main powerhouse, so they multanis would be dishearted.. :D

Re: Possibility of Sharifs’ Arrest

His entire niebourhood was prosecuted for taking loans directly from Pakistan’s treasury with the intention of NEVER paying anything back

And thats just his mohollah…

You mean all major cities of punjab. :cb:

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

Seraikis are Punjabis- I dont call them different than Punjabis- plain and simple. Infact, most of the Seraikis like to call themselves Punjabis.

Re: Possibility of Sharifs’ Arrest

His dad was rich and didn’t need money. Big Tind’s only intention in entering politics was to serve the people of Pakistan and help the poor and needy. Sad, he was overthrown by Mushy.

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

He filed a 90 ruppee tax return for god sakes. A distant relative of mine is a federal tax court judge, and he himself handled that claim. Even HE was shocked and he deals with all kinds of tax issues...

Ofcourse the paindu's family was rich. There is no question about that. But why then did they feel the need to have secret personal accounts offshore, and money was being wired directly from Pakistan treasury to them...

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

yes he was serving the people of Pakistan by getting involved in sugar smuggling with India, it was all in a good cause - and that was to destroy Pakistan and make his family rich. You need to sit down and read history once in a while.

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

Apparently they are taking a Gulf Air flight via Muscat to Islamabad. If so, I wonder if the Royals in Oman have been contacted to create some diversions? :)

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

They are taking PK786 from London to Isb...

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

^ The tribune said otherwise..

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

Maybe they did not want to chance being diverted from Muscat to Jeddah by the Omani's?

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

His first term was much better than his second term- during his first term he tried to eliminate corruption from the Pakistani society and was doing that well until he was dismissed by Ghulam Ishaq Khan. I don't believe the rumors he was involved with sugar smuggling with India- why would he do that when his family is one of the richest in Pakistan?? Hum Pakistaniyon mein kisi afwah(rumor) ko hawa dene ki aadat hai. We keep blaming someone without providing proof or digging hard to figure the facts out. Mard-e-haq is another example who's so unpopular among neo-liberal secular jehadis posthumously.

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

90 rupees tax return?? Hahaha!! I dont buy that? Big Tind can't be that dumb, can he be? People wouldn't buy 90 rupees tax return story.. go and tell this to someone else please- When he went public with his assets, how can he do that with the treasury. Care to explain please?

Re: Possibility of Sharifs' Arrest

^
moin - until yesterday Nawaz had said he never signed any agreement to leave the country and escape Attock prison. Did you believe him when he originally had said for 7 years that he never signed any agreement whatsoever?

Why is your "sher-e-Punjab" such a bare faced liar?
