Is being possessive a bad thing?

Being controlling is. but then having an opinion and being able to convey that respectfully is a positive trait , right?

so, is possessiveness good or bad? and why ?

You possess things not people, being possessive is like you own that person, normally a result of insecurities.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing, controlling on the other hand is a bad thing.

It’s natural to be possessive about things you love.

I think in a relationship a little amount of possessiveness/protectiveness shows you care but when it turns psychotic and controlling then that’s not cool.

But giving them freedom is real love. I was eavesdropping when my wife was talking about me with her friend and I am thinking she will tell her how I treat her so well, help around the house etc and you know what she said she admires most about me is that I let her do whatever she pleases. Same thing I admire about her. Possessiveness leads to ugliness.

Agreed. Possession for me is only valid for objects. I prefer to give everyone autonomy independent of me, even my own kid.

I’m in complete agreement with both of you… Though I do have moments where I wish I could possess and control people… But they’re fleeting and usually come about when I’m driving and someone cuts me off! Hehe

If you can give your children the freedom to live their own lives as they wish then you are a great parent.
