Positive thinking

Ok this is something I haven’t quite gotten the grasp of… like everyone I know always says t hink positive and good things will happen… the way you think about life and circumstances affects the outcome of whats to happen a great deal… is that really true? Alot of people say positive thinking has worked and made things happen the way they want to… but for some reason I can’t do it… i’ll be positive and hopeful for like two days and if I dont see any change ill start freaking out like oh my God ok so this just isnt meant to be etc. etc… and then i get depressed cuz I think my pessimism is gonna make life even crazier… so what exactly is the trick? How do you have such strong hope for life and things without letting in to doubts or whatever? I know its a little ambiguous the way i wrote it but if anyone understands please help me out. Thanks

Re: Positive thinking

Hang on for a slow, theme park ride through a thicket of information about philosophy for “young people”. There is a little roller coaster story in it while it was entertaining enough for an old man to learn from.

The good part is that a guide for young people about philosophy is just about the right speed for me; my philosophical studies being what they were. Limited.

"'Everything flows... Everything is in constant flux and movement... Therefore we 'cannot step twice into the same river." When I step into the river for the second time, neither I nor the river are the same."

In our clas once Socrates is discussed and gives me my newly favorite quotation, “One thing only I know and that is that I know nothing.” I still don’t after reading the book but perhaps a little more and an appreciation for how positive it would have been to read this when I was 17 going on 18 or thereabouts.

Today we know that the earth is 4.6 billion years old...

Here we stop to remember that the 6000 year old belief was in the early 19th century. Some groups got lost back there.

There is more and some is slow; some fun. If I knew a young person with an intellectual tendency; I would send it on. But there is enough fun in learning to interest others as well.
It is worth a look and a good gift for some of the young people who I hope still exist and are not glued to their cell phones so much that learning is lost.

:topic:Hey Sabriya how you been ?? Long time no see

Re: Positive thinking

You should think positive. Life is too short to be negative.

I guess some people tilt more towards being optimists and some to being pessimists, its just they way they are. But I guess you can work on being less negative.

Btw nice to see you again, what have you been upto Sabriya?

Re: Positive thinking

Yeah, if you really think positively, then the chances of that event turning out positively will be higher than if you though pessimistically. I think it's human nature to be skeptical or pessimistic. It's just a matter of lowering the degree of negativity and allowing the positivity to flow in. So when you find yourself thinking negatively, FORCE yourself to think otherwise for at least x amount of time. It could make all the difference. Plenty of people also attest to this. It won't hurt to try, except if things really don't work out well, you'll be able to develop a harder outer shell.

Re: Positive thinking

Positive thinking has a positive impact on the;

mind ( to be able to think creatively for the society)

body (to maintain a good health)

&

soul ( to gain spiritual satisfaction)

and vice versa.

Re: Positive thinking

Sabriya,
remember one thing: devaar mati kee ho tow koe bhee towr sekta hey..
jeb pather kee devar ho tow iss key kareeb aa ker shaid koe penah ley sakey.
so, no matter how worse things get, always have faith in the One who made us all.
and then first do all you can to have control over your life.
faith in fact makes us hopeful.
we are not all perfect, sometimes we have habits that we have, but we are atleast able to treat others with kindness.
people who have fake faith or no faith, they are the ones who sadly are hopeless in reality.

so you stay hopeful and always faithful. :)
may Allah swt make you always find the best in life.

Re: Positive thinking

Just remember its no quick fix remedy...It takes time and patience. Look at it this way, if you think negative thoughts all the time...you are the one who ends up being miserable...and wasting that precious "now" for the elusive "tomorrow" or the impossible "past"

Everyone has bad times in their lives..the trick is how to get through them...You have the choice and power in your hands. Why not use it. Oh you dont have to be annoyingly smiley and "in your face" all the time, but if you have some form of hope or gratitude ...see how easy it is to ride the bad times.

Advice coming from someone who is going thru particularly rough time....and I always remember the song by Dire Straits..."There will be laughter after pain...sunshine after rain...things will never stay the same....so dont worry!"

:)

Re: Positive thinking

Let's remove the cliche' and talk straight. Human emotions are different. Stress is not a medical condition. We deal with extraordinary situation on daily basis. What is bothering you? If it is something that is being done to you than you should confront it because it is certainly not making your life easy. Or if you think something that you have done may have affected someone's else life.

Otherwise, take it as a blessing...get to know the situation. I don't think you watch sports, but there is a player Payton Manning, top player, he said that stress or panic is something where you don't know the situation. If you know the whole story than you will never be stressed out or depressed.

Re: Positive thinking

It depends...

It's called the Law of Attraction isn't it? What that movie "The Secret" was based on...

I have no idea to be honest... However lots of people say it has worked for them.

I can't think of a logical reason for it... Islamically though the thing that Allah treats you according to ur expectations...
