A clothes shop owner in East Riffa has been left red faced after his business was mistakenly named Porn Fashion. It was supposed to say Born Fashion, but a mistranslation from Arabic to English led to the error. The Bahraini businessman was reportedly unaware of the meaning of the word in English, but has been asked by authorities to change it following a string of complaints.
“It’s a mistake by the Commercial Registration (CR)holder,” said a government official. “The right word is born and not porn. We have instructed the CR holder to rectify the error immediately,” he said. “I don’t know how this mistake happened,” the shop owner said yesterday. "Probably one of the workers wrote it and spelt it incorrectly, which he also didn’t notice or know the meaning of.
"I didn’t know about it until I got a call from responsible authorities.
“I have already asked my workers to remove the board and they are now working on it,” he added.
I wonder how come they made such a silly mistake Thinking in other way than yes there is no word in arabic in replace of ‘p’ as in urdu ‘py’ so the arab use/say it starting from ‘B’ ‘by’.
We say "Pay him’ whereas an arab will say "bay him’.
I think it is b’coz arabic is their official language and all the software etc., are in arabic. That is why most of them don’t know the exact translation of word in english. I think the advertiser even don’t know what is the meaning of ‘born’ too as he wrote ‘born’ in arabic instead of its translation like advertiser did for another word.
