About cable networks in Pakistanl, let me clarify. I used to be up all night waiting for Star trek Deep Space nine on a South African channel (Mnet Series) on Pakistani cable networks... Yes, they do show porn, but what they do is, they switch to German Channels (Onyx, Vox, RTL quite popular in Germany) or FashionTV from the Hotbird Satellites (Which are free to air provided you have a big satellite dish). These German Channels, at night time revert to adult entertainment, and in Pakistan its about 3am-4am so that explains the timings. The cable operators then switch these channels early in the morning.
I disagree. Societies should be allowed to determine what decency standards apply to their own selves. In the United States, certain words are considered inappropriate and are banned. They have ratings for TV shows. Nudity and sexual content only is available on premium channels, i.e. cable channels, though people pay to get them, are held to a higher standard. Pakistanis are entirely naive about all of this I feel and some horny cable operator is taking advantage of it.
Its not shocking, go to any "internet cafe" and you see bookmarks for this sort of stuff. And I disagree that overexposure is the answer. Indeed, it will instead create highly dysfunctional males (since they are mostly the ones who watch it) in a society where gender relations are already messed up. Rape, homosexuality and child rape are sure to follow, given the frustration people might feel and the general denigration of women these sorts of shows/movies contain.
Someone with a conscience should make sure this cable operator is set straight.

I think there are inherent problems in spreading of porn in a closed-society like Pakistan. You will end up with a lot of horny youngesters who have no avenue to take out their frustration, have little interaction with opposite sex and as a result can end up doing some really stupid things. Bad idea on multiple fronts.
Are porn flicks the same thing as "Blue" movies in Pak or India?
I had heard that they show blue movies in Pak and India but I never could figure out if they meant soft porn flicks by the word "blue"

watch ishq vishq pyar wyar, even in that movie, one of the guy told his best friend about the blue movie that is going to air on cable at 1:00 am, that movie is the witness, if u dont believe it watch urself... even my friend recently came from india like a month a go and she was schoked herself to see india has changed so much in past few years, the type of dresses she doesnt wear in USA she actually wore it in india because people do that...and she also mention about adult movies that they air on cable every now and then....
our channels used to consider as family channel where everyone can sit together and watch anthin.. but since all these Indian channels were introduced in pakistan, we started to change gradually... I dont have any right to blame your country.. its just that pakistan is becomming more western.. and thats all because of foreigh channels in pakistan( happy now.. i aint saying INDIA aymore)

But its sad to see we are changing day by day… and I know most of trend we copy from India rather than other western countries. Usually whatever we do we first compare ourself with India…not just in latest trend but also in IT field. even on my 9th grade computer class in pak, my teacher used to be tell us that we are some 10 15 years behind India in IT field… we need to work so hard just to be on their level then compete the rest of the world. we do have our own things.. but as I said Most of the time we compare with India and try to beat it.

Its a social norm already. It has been for the past 5 years. With cable, its just another luxury for those poor lonely *******s. There is nothing WE can do to help the situation. What we can do is choose to turn away from it.
this isn't surprising....I am an insomniac and when I was at the University, the best time for me to study was 10 a.m to 3 a.m. T.V and flipping channels provided some semblance of normalcy and some respite from work...and I was amazed to see that our cable operators were showing such stuff so openly. Fortunatley, its no more the case now but in some areas I hear, they still run such shows :p
