Shouldn't it be our beliefs controlling us, rather than we controlling our beliefs.
I am alright with what my religion and my Lord are alright with and I am not alright with what my Lord is not happy with.
I pray to Allah (swt) to bless us with the strength and wisdom to be happy and unhappy with the things HE is happy and unhappy with, respectively.
