I heard from the Mullas, that if you have nothing else to eat and you need to eat something to stay alive, than you could eat pork. Is that really true?

Yaar, in this current world I dont think its applicable, where the hell will u find pork if u are dying???? It was past when these things applicable. But worst comes to worst, then use ur own sense and see how strong ur imaan is.

In Afghanistan, at peak of the war, people eat Dogs, Rats, and whatever they could get their hands on.
At times of war and hardship, integrity is the first thing to go.
Using Pork is only a metaphor, it can be applied to any situation. For example, if your house is on fire, you will be stupid to go inside to fetch for your family photographs or other belongings.

I think its still applicable. Some of my relatives have to go for more than one hour drive in order to get halal food. What if their car is not working or some other problem comes up??

Your relatives seem to be followers of Deming and staunch supporters of the Just In Time inventory system.
1- dont they have any other food at home?
2- cant they get any non meat products at the local grocery store..eggs, fish, cheese,
3- one day of going meatless may be good for them anyway.
4- even if they have nothing...any human being can live without food for a day and not die.
Someone who can drive his car 1 hour to get halaal meat is obviously not in life threatening situation :)
Cheese pizza at local 7-11 can help in such "dire situations"
Anything is allowed in such a desperate situation. But can human beings eat other dead human beings? (I saw this in a movie called Alive).

The story of my relatives was in US where there is a huge muslim population. THen you just imagine places where there aren't as many muslims.
Secondly, even my parents don't care about halal and haram. They just eat anything. So in my house i am the only who actually cares about it (a little bit). I usually eat only vegetables 'cuz thats the only halal food available in my house. But of course my iman is not that strong so i get sick of eating veg. too.
PS: I dont know Urdu, please reply in english.
