~Populism~

Is populism devouring the democracy in Pakistan?

Well never thought of this before so looked up the definition of Populism!

Populism: A political philosophy supporting the rights and power of the people in their struggle against the privileged elite.

as compared to Democracy…

Democracy: Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally?either directly or indirectly through elected representatives?in the proposal, development, and creation of laws.

I think them are both just Labels used by Politicians who are testing the Waters before jumping into the Political Arena!

*In Pakistan the Corrupt Elite Regimes had to be overthrown by a Populist Leader!

**The only devouring going on in Pakistan was the so called “Elite Status Persona” running the Democracy whole hearted-ly devouring the Baitul Mal ***

Great topic!

Two things IMO. Its not only Pakistan. And its not only Democracy.

Whole world is effected by emerging Populists.

Trump in America, IK in Pakistan. Few in Europe. But the concern of all political science experts is that most populists theoretically end up disappointing people. In 1980s there was a lady Akino who overthrew longtime tyrant/President Marcos in Philippines. What happened afterwards was worse. Same goes for Current Myanmar’s PM Aan San Sue Ki.

The reason given is that these populist figures rise to the popularity making some insane promises and showing people dreams that are quite unrealistic. As soon as people see those dreams being crushed, they go rampant on fire. Not stable at all.

Now as far as your basic question is concerned, what I’m seeing is that people dont care about democracy. Right now its IK and just a couple of years back it was IK plus Raheel Shareef all over. And RS is a military figure so ofcourse during service he could have come in power only thru martial Law.

Good topic to discuss nevertheless

Thanks to hate spread by social media and groups brainwashing people thru social media campaigns.

True change never comes with revolution, but rather evolution, even when it comes, it is usually superficial and short-lived or a manifestation of a slowly growing social phenomenon,

Similarly the precursors of revolution e.g populism, romanticism, cultism are also not good for a society in the long run. Problem in Pakistani society is personality worship, especially in politics

You are a politician because your father was married to your mother who was a daughter of a leader and hence you are naturally a politician and a born leader.
