Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded Tuesday that Pope Benedict XVI firmly reject denial of the Holocaust, a week and a half after the Vatican rehabilitated a bishop who denied the Nazis had intentionally murdered 6 million Jews.

“The pope and the Vatican must make absolutely clear that there can be no denial of the Holocaust,” Merkel said…

Talk about freedom of speech!

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

^ Just curious if you advocated "freedom of speech/expression" for the Danish cartoonist or Salman Rushdie or is this a new concept that you have learnt ?? ;)

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

^ Does it look like I am advocating it?

ever heard of 'sarcasm'?

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

So by not advocating "freedom of speech" you are supporting the German chancellor's demand ?

Just wanted to be sure since that was not very evident in your original post :)

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

Your logic doesn't make any sense. I guess the post wasn't for you.

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

^ Let me make it simple for you ;)

From your original post it seemed like you were advocating freedom of speech for the bishop who denied holocaust, but in your next post you said that you were not advocating freedom of speech, which would mean that you are supporting the German demand.

I am just not clear on what your POV is :)

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

Just pointing out the irony about western standards of Freedom of Speech when it comes to Holocaust.

kasme hor koi maqsad nai si maira!

Exactly ! Which begs the question whether you advocated "freedom of speech/expression" for the Danish cartoonist or Salman Rushdie too or were you in favor of censorship/banning them ??

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

I'm saying that I do not advocate the 'freedom of speech' standards as they are in the West. They should be uniform, whatever they are.

I am personally not much irritated by the cartoonist of Rushdie. But if you deny freedom of speech to holocaust deniers because they hurt feelings of a particular sect, then you should do the same in other cases.

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

I agree with uniform application of the "freedom of speech" concept, and so was just curious on what you thought :)

Re: Pope urged to act on Holocaust-denying bishop

Freedom of speech only applies if:

  1. You aren't muslim
  2. Err...that is it I guess...

  • If you are not talking about Holocaust.

  • I loved the Vatican's response to Merkel. It was a very diplomatic way of saying "Get bent!"

The Pope probably loathes Merkel since he wants Europeans to have more children and here we have this childless hag trying to tell the Pope what to do.
