Re: Pope passed away!
Oh my God. I was not expecting it for some reason. Gosh, sorry to hear that.
Who is next in line?
Re: Pope passed away!
The Vatican is still denying it.
Re: Pope passed away!
ahhh, not yet. Vatican says that he has multiple organ failure, but he is still alive.
Catty, they have a conference of Cardinals, who vote for the next Pope. Apparently this Pope has already outlived a number of successors. It's all very secret and political. I remember the last time in the '70s, and it is really quite the spectical. The news channels will have a field day.
Re: Pope passed away!
^ no man his successor.
OG, what is so special about this Pope that they want to keep him alive? Is there no other competent Cardinal out there.
Re: Pope passed away!
been watching the news all day, his heart and kidneys have failed and his condition is worsening...but i dont think he has died as of yet.
Re: Pope passed away!
They're forcing him to stay alive.
"It is not true that the Pope is dead and there is no truth that his electro-encephalogram is flat because there is no such machine in the papal apartments," a Vatican official said.
Re: Pope passed away!
According to the newspresnter on channel 4, the pope appointed some church officials today and has been conducting business as usual...
i think its hope not force...
Re: Pope passed away!
okkkkkkkk big deal!
Re: Pope passed away!
Catty, I think the thing that has made this Pope special is a few things. (and I am not catholic, but most of my friends are). First he is Polish. He was very outspoken for human rights in Poland, which was a Soviet Bloc communist state while he was the cardinal there. Second he has travelled the world man times over, logging far more miles than almost every Pope before him combined. Last, he has been Pope for so long, most Catholics on the earth today have only experience this pope and perhaps one or two others. If memory serves me, the Popes directly before him lasted only a few years.
I don't think that they are going to try to keep him alive at all. I think he wanted to be an example of live life with strength til the very end, trying to fulfill his duties even this Easter. I think they will look back at him and find that he was a fine example of what a Pope should be to the Catholic Church.
Perhaps the only black mark on his reign is the child molestation scandals which were not dealt with well. Other than that, he has lead the Catholic church into the future without caving in to modern times, and some of the morally complicated things that have come about in the last 30 years.
Re: Pope passed away!
No smoke has come from the Vatican yet so apparently he is still alive.
Re: Pope passed away!
Ok, thanks for the explanation OG. I think the Catholic community must come to realisation that he is human after all and true reverence should be towards God.
Re: Pope passed away!
so a pope is somone who comes after the position of jesus? is this why he is so important in christianity?
( just curious about it, i mean no offence to anyone.)
Re: Pope passed away!
^ Catholicism. He is the head of the Church as I understand it, and not a divine intermediary between God and the people. Or is he?
Re: Pope passed away!
When he sits in a certain chair he is.
Re: Pope passed away!
^ lol.
But he's not a Prophet.
Re: Pope passed away!
cat - the Catholic community does come to that realization and true reverence is towards God at all times.
The Pope is the religious head of our church world-wide, the only higher authority is God himself. That is why he is so important to us, he is the glue that holds us together world-wide. That is also why this is hitting us hard.
Sorta off topic, I always thought a "Pope" is kind of what the Muslim religion needs to give them unity worldwide, maybe to give a rest to the different sect wars.
To answer something that was posted while I was writing this, he is thought of as the mouthpiece of God, the ultimate authority.
Re: Pope passed away!
Hey Catty, I check in with a Shia Islam site every once in a while, and every poster there has a huge picture of his favored Imam. No difference.
The Christian theory very simply is that Jesus called for the assembly of a church to honor him. His apostles wrote about their experiences with Christ, and they started to assemble the church after his death. From the writings of the apostles (highly edited mind you) the bible was assemble. The Catholic church was formed a couple of hundreds of years after the death of Christ, and the Pope is the spiritual leader of the church. Now historically the Pope, some of the Saints and others have claimed mystical powers, ie conversations with Christ or the appearance of miracles. Most Christians beleive this is just hocus pocus, but there are some branches of the Catholic Church in particular that do beleive in "miracles" from God.
So the Pope is the leader of a church that honors Christ, his mother Mary, and worships God.
