Pope Benedict XVI has decided to resign citing ill-health. I think he has set a precedent by resigning when he realized that he could no longer discharge his duties.
Should wait and see who the next Pope would and what would the ramifications be for the new world order.
Definitely a precedent......first pope to resign in 600 years.
I'm not sure why everyone is so "shocked" as they are putting it. He is old to begin with and his health has been in a constant decline since he took the role.
I thought that was life time job...of conning people out of their money. Btw, now he should spend remaining years in jail for covering up for pedophile priests.
Some are suggesting that he's finally been pushed out due to the sex abuse scandal.......as well as the vati-leaks scandal which his butler contributed to.
maybe he realized all this stuff is nonsense and decided to become a good human being instead. lets start with getting you off that virgin tag, pal.. that is unnatural.
c'mon guys......let's show some decorum and respect....granted he may not be a leader of our faith....and even as a leader of another faith he may not have measured up to our individual expectations but can't we just be polite? he's on his way out.....by his own choice......that should stand for something.
so a billion is the minimum criteria for a religious leader be shown respect to........
anyways......i made my point......ciao
actually the only point that you made is that you have the disease of "selective comprehension" and refuse to follow protocol but will take any opportunity to oppose......but yeah....everyone already knows that about you anyway......have a nice day!
come on.. even the catholics understand the pope is a vestige of the dark ages. there is a reason why the KKK's symbol is a flaming cross. this guy has time and again spoken up openly against the "evils of secularism". so no, no respect for this man.

and that's fine......as I said....he leaves behind a legacy that is likely beyond comparison to any other pope....but the way that we express that dissatisfaction with his tenure can be reasonable.
we certainly don't need to talk about his intimate life.....
and just to understand....are you using the KKK as an example of reason?

I respectfully disagree. This man did cover up child sex abuse by the clergy. Calling a spade a spade is not disrespectful. It is just stating the truth.

Calling a spade a spade is certainly not disrespectful, but do you have the entire context to make such sweeping statements. Catholic organization is huge and changes cannot be done overnight. It is a marvel of faith that the institution of papacy continues to this day and prosper.
For all the criticism that is directed to this pope, he ensured that he stood steadfast in what he believed in and decided to go when he realized that his health did not permit him to continue.

Come on, let us not throw sense to the winds here. Do you expect the greatest leader of a religious institution to espouse the greatness of secularism.
That said, he made sure that he reached out to people from other faiths. True he made one gaffe for which he apologized.
